Dr Manish Purohit is a Microbiologist from Madhya Pradesh, who persevered to rise above his economically challenged situation and built a successful life and career.

Dr Manish is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore. He has been working in this college for the last ten years. He has been involved in testing for the Coronavirus for the last eighteen months.

Dr Manish says he was from a financially poor background as his father was a labour class worker and struggled to provide for his family. Dr Manish and his younger brother studied hard to get into Medicine and Engineering, respectively. His brother’s success in the Engineering Entrance Exam motivated him to pursue the Medical Entrance Test. He cleared the entrance and joined MBBS. Soon after completing his studies, Dr Manish started working to cover the expenses and fund his post-graduation. He joined M.D. in Microbiology and joined as an Assistant Professor in the same college after completing the degree in 2013.

Dr Manish believes that Experience is gained at every stage in life. He has been getting a variety of experiences since childhood. During his medical entrance preparations, he had a hard time balancing his studies and family responsibilities as the eldest son of the family. Those moments taught him to live and perform under extremes of pressure.

Dr Manish says that Education is important for gaining knowledge. Knowledge helps to gain experience, and experience gives the confidence to work in a specified field.

During the Covid pandemic, Dr Manish's lab was the first in Madhya Pradesh to start with the virus testing. However, due to fear and ambiguity, it was hard to understand the testing procedures. Gradually with government and private support, the lab acquired proper equipment and increased its testing capacity.

Dr Manish felt accomplished when he passed the Medical Entrance test and got admitted to MBBS. Secondly, teaching as an Assistant Professor in the same college he graduated from was another moment of accomplishment for him.

If Dr Manish finds a time travel machine, he would like to relive his newly-married days and give more time to his wife and family.

Success, according to Dr Manish, is the fruit of hard work and honesty. He believes that time is precious, and thus, should be utilised sincerely.

Dr Manish says that being the elder in the family, being a responsible leader was in his attitude naturally.

He considers his parents and family as his role models as they have always guided and supported him.
