Dr. Manish Kulshrestha has been working as a Neuro Physician at Paras JK Hospital in Udaipur for the past five years.
Manish hails from Japawali village in the Dholpur district of Rajasthan. He studied till 1st grade in his village itself but then he moved to Bari and completed his remaining schooling from there. He shares that when one of his seniors was selected for the medical field, he was fascinated to see his status and respect in the eyes of the villagers, and decided to become a doctor at that very moment.
After his 12th, Manish took his PMT coaching from Allen Institute and cleared his PMT exam getting the eighth position in the first attempt itself. He did his MBBS from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. Later, he got an opportunity to do his MD in Medicine from Jodhpur. Then he worked as an Assistant Professor at Geetanjali Medical College, Udaipur. He also served at Medanta -The Medicity in Gurgaon and then he did his super-specialty course from Delhi in 2018. Thereafter, he started practicing at Paras JK Hospital in Udaipur.
Recalling his childhood memories, Manish says he was a notorious child and used to climb mulberry trees to eat them. He feels nostalgic to share that one day while descending from the tree, his brother fractured his hand and he was scolded a lot at home.
Talking about his role models, Manish says he considers his parents as his role models for instilling a never-give-up attitude in him. He also takes inspiration from Swami Vivekanand for his teachings to achieve something in life.
Describing his struggles, Manish says that coming from a small village and becoming a doctor is a challenging journey in itself. He says that dreaming big was quite troublesome for him as he had to face several taunts and slanders from people close to his family. Apart from this, it was very difficult for him to take his career forward along with his married life and continue his studies alongside. But facing everything, he proved himself by reaching this position today based on his ability and determination.
When asked about his achievements, Manish says that coming from a small village and becoming a Neuro Physician is a big achievement for him. Also, the respect for him and his parents in the minds of his village people makes him feel proud. Besides, his parents are proud of him which is his biggest achievement. In addition, curing his patients and getting blessings from them is no less than an achievement for him.
Sharing his COVID experience, Manish says that everyone suffered a lot during that time, even the doctors. He adds that along with the loss of lives, resources also fell short and people saw very bad days as all the businesses were closed during the pandemic. On the other hand, the inclination of people towards hygiene and the environment has also increased a lot. Along with this, digitization also got a good impetus, due to which the education field shifted to online platforms, and the talents of many people also emerged.
Regarding leadership, Manish opines that the leadership qualities in him have come because of his patients and due to what he has learned over time. He says that he never waits for anyone to take the follow-up of his clients, instead he himself does so. He considers it wise to satisfy his clients completely at his end and regards it as a leadership skill.
According to Manish, both education and experience are equally important because education allows you to gain knowledge and by applying that knowledge, you gain experience. So unless there is education, there will be no experience because our minds can only see what it knows.
In his spare time, Manish likes to spend time with his family, play with his kids and go on long drives with them. He is also fond of listening to old songs and humming together.
If anyone wants to become a doctor, Manish advises them that they must choose their goal in advance as to what they want to become. He adds that you should also develop your communication skills to talk openly with your patients, solve their problems and easily counsel their families as well.
