Dr. Lalit Joshi retired from the post of Additional Director in the Animal Husbandry Department, Udaipur, in the year 2020. After retirement, he started volunteering with various NGOs, thus contributing his bit to the cause of social service.
Lalit hails from Udaipur. He was born into a family of freedom fighters. His father was a teacher. He completed his schooling at Vidya Bhawan School, Udaipur. After completing high school, he opted for veterinary science. He completed his bachelor’s at Veterinary College, Bikaner. He always loved animals. Even at his home, there were many animals, like cows, dogs, cats, etc. He would love to be around them.
After completing his bachelor's, Lalit received a senior fellowship at ICAR from the Indian government. Meanwhile, he also completed his master's. After completing his Master's, he got selected for government services, and since then he has worked in the Animal Husbandry Department, Udaipur. His first posting was as a vet in Dhariyawad, Udaipur. He adds that Dhariyawad was a tribal area, and people were very poor there. Whenever he was able to cure their cattle, he would get a feeling of contentment. Later, he also worked in the development department as a development officer for many years. During his stint as Development Officer, he formed and implemented various policies for the upliftment of the tribal people.
Talking about struggles in his life, Lalit says that it takes struggles to achieve something in life. He was the eighth child of his parents. His family’s financial condition was not that good. But he worked really hard and never let his family’s financial status be an impediment to achieving his dreams.
To anyone who wants to be a vet, Lalit advises that, first and foremost, one should have love for the animals. Besides, one should always be willing to work for the lower strata of society. He also adds that the veterinary service has a good scope nowadays; one can work for the army, the dairy department, insurance companies, etc.
Lalit’s success mantra is always to have a positive attitude. Besides, according to him, having a team spirit with true intentions is also a key to success.
Lalit considers Swami Vivekananda his idol. He also considers his father his role model.
“Inside a healthy body resides a healthy mind.” Lalit ardently follows this quote. He wakes up early in the morning and goes for a walk. He also plays lawn tennis and does yoga and pranayama to keep himself fit and active.
Lalit believes that in the field of veterinary services, education is important, but experience matters more. He advises the aspiring vets to go into the field as much as possible and gain hands-on experience.
