Professor (Dr.) Indu Gupta is the Head of the Department of Mathematics at Arya College of Engineering, Jaipur. She has been working in this institution for the last nineteen years.
Dr. Indu reveals that her primary goal is to make Mathematics engaging for students so they won't be scared of it and will like it. Her approach to teaching in the classroom is to simply explain everything and relate maths concepts to real-life scenarios and how the students may use it. Her class attendance remains between 92% to 95% which is her achievement.
Dr. Indu emphasises that the primary course at Arya College is Engineering, which includes several specialisations including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Electronics, and Information Technology. Arya College also provides additional courses such as B. Pharma, MBA, M. Tech, and many more.
Dr. Indu explains that, by using information technology to a maximum, Arya College has made Engineering accessible to any young person who wants to pursue it. She believes engineering is a basic need that shapes your personality if you want to become a professional. Being technically strong is essential to keeping up with the times, and engineering is a technical certification that is in high demand right now. Any young person from even a small town can enrol at Arya College to study engineering and make a contribution to society, she claims.
Dr. Indu says that she enjoys mathematics a lot since it is conceptual, analytical, and all about understanding things. She always comprehends concepts and arranges them in her thoughts before teaching. She thinks that since mathematics is a fundamental requirement, humans cannot function in any sector or thrive in life without it. To highlight the importance of mathematics in our lives, she uses the analogy of the brain that communicates instructions to all other body parts. She claims that maths is a fundamental necessity for our social lives.
Dr. Indu was born and raised in Jaipur and finished her schooling there itself from Delhi Public School. She received her B.Sc. Degree from Maharani College and her M.Sc. Degree from Rajasthan University and worked with Prof. PR Sharma to finish her PhD. She accepts that she was able to achieve this position because of her parents.
Going back to her early years, she recalls an event from third grade where she brought her friend's pencil home. Her mother gave her a severe reprimand and told her to always use her own belongings. She counsels all parents that being a parent involves more than just getting their kids into a good school or coaching. It is the responsibility of the parents to pay attention to their child, keep all the information about them and maintain friendly behaviour with them.
Regarding her role models, she responds that she learns from everyone and applies it in her life. She especially looks up to Dr. Pooja Agarwal, the Vice President of Arya College, who oversees every department of the college while also carrying out her motherly duties. Dr. Indu has an interest in politics too and also works for the community as well. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has united India and is leading the country as a nation, serves as the main inspiration to Dr. Indu.
Dr. Indu is motivated and inspired by the song "Har Karam Apna Karenge Aye Watan Tere Liye."
Speaking about her challenges, Dr. Indu says that she didn't have to face many problems because her father was well educated and she always had her parents' encouragement to work har. She thinks she has not encountered any difficulties in life thanks to God's blessings and her parents' support.
Dr. Indu views her pupils as her greatest assets. One of her best accomplishments as an educator, having worked for the last 19 years, is being recognised and respected by her previous students. She talks of a time when a student of hers named Ravi Soni saw her at a market and expressed respect to her. He told her that, with the support of the Arya College administration and the teachers, he had been appointed Additional Director of Rajasthan Roadways.
She counsels aspiring educators to approach arithmetic instruction with ease and emphasises the necessity to remove children's maths anxiety. To ensure that children's interest grows and they like the lesson, she states that maths should always be taught by connecting it to real-life examples.
Dr. Indu counsels young people to pursue careers in other areas as well in order to advance society, inspire others, and participate in politics. One must first undergo transformation inside oneself in order to effect change. Young people must remember their responsibilities to their community, nation, and country in addition to their rights.
