Dr. G. K. Aseri serves as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Amity University, Rajasthan. He actively contributes to academic administration, overseeing various aspects from student admissions to ensuring successful placements and the progression of the university.
According to Dr. Aseri, the university prioritizes selecting high-quality students, offering industry-integrated programs, and providing top-notch infrastructure. They emphasize recruiting research-oriented faculty, delivering quality education in classrooms, and ensuring students absorb valuable material to shape their future.
Dr. Aseri shares that Amity University, Rajasthan, focuses on holistic student development, regularly updating the infrastructure, activities, processes, and SOPs. Recently, the university received an A+ grade accreditation from NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), underlining the quality of education they provide for their students to enable them to compete on national and international platforms.
Dr. Aseri emphasizes the pivotal role of education as the backbone of any nation. He believes that skills and technologies form the foundation of a nation, starting from schools to universities and research organizations. In higher education, where students spend 3 to 5 years pursuing UG and PG degrees, the university becomes a crucial place for growth.
Highlighting the importance of research across various sectors, Dr. Aseri mentions that Amity University integrates programs with relevant industries. This approach involves industry experts conducting lectures, workshops, and various activities to provide students with the practical knowledge and exposure required for their professional lives.
Dr. Aseri informs us that Amity University has international tie-ups, welcoming international agencies and research organizations to contribute to the shaping process of their students. Dr. Aseri emphasizes that this approach prepares students for both national and global requirements.
Dr. Aseri highlights India's identity as an agriculture and service sector economy, presenting abundant entrepreneurial opportunities. He recalls that even during the challenging times of the pandemic, we witnessed a surge in new startups, particularly in agriculture and IT. The COVID era also showcased significant IT involvement in education. Dr. Aseri envisions a continued and increased role of the IT industry in the entire education process-from teaching and learning to evaluation.
Dr. Aseri acknowledges India's strengths in mines, minerals, agriculture, and skilled manpower. He expresses the importance of identifying and acquiring proper skills, stating that, as a university, their mission is to equip students with skills for this evolving environment, ensuring they possess the skills needed to thrive in these sectors.
When asked about his role models, Dr. Aseri reflects on the diverse sources of inspiration he has encountered throughout his life. He emphasizes that inspiration can be drawn from various individuals, and his journey began with the impactful teachers he had during his school days. These teachers not only provided him with a quality education and domain knowledge but also offered mentorship and guidance.
Driven by their encouragement, Dr. Aseri pursued his academic career, completing his graduation and post-graduation from the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur. His journey continued with a Ph.D. in Microbiology in 2002, where he had the opportunity to interact with scientists, teachers, and senior students who had made their mark globally. This exposure fueled his desire to contribute to India's academic landscape.
Dr. Aseri acknowledges the critical role of teachers as motivators in shaping students' careers. He fondly recalls his school teachers, such as Suja Ram, Sarla Maheshwari, K.G. Vyas, Uma Pillai, Sundara Murthy, Atyam Venkateshwar, and Shekhawat Sir, who left a lasting impact on him.
After joining Amity University in 2006, he found additional motivation and mentorship from Colonel S.P. Singh.
Dr. Aseri emphasizes that motivation, domain knowledge, and technological skills are integral aspects of professional development. According to him, his journey is only halfway through, and there's more to accomplish.
Reflecting on his early years working in laboratories(1994-1999), Dr. Aseri highlights the challenges faced due to limited resources. He says that the lack of high-end equipment led many to seek solutions abroad. Over time, institutions in larger cities have been better equipped, but his hometown, Jodhpur, still lags behind.
But, today, Amity University provides very good facilities in Rajasthan, says Dr. Aseri.
Dr. Aseri stresses the importance of motivation in any field. He says he draws inspiration from various encounters, including from a friend, Gopa Ram, who cycled for four hours each morning to distribute milk before attending college. Such stories fuel his determination.
He notes that colleagues and people working at his university who balance farm work with their 9-to-5 jobs inspire him to work harder. Leaders of India and his college friends like Pradeep Kumar, who kept on studying hard despite suffering from blood cancer, further motivate Dr. Aseri.
Dr. Aseri’s inspirational mantra is to continue working hard every day, month, and year despite life’s challenges.
In a nostalgic moment, Dr. Aseri fondly remembers Pradeep Kumar singing a song that resonates with the journey of life: "Nadiya chale, chale re dhara… chanda chale, chale re tara …. tujhko chalna hoga… tujhko chalna hoga."
Dr. Aseri reflects on the struggles inherent in every individual's journey, emphasizing that overcoming challenges is integral to achieving success. He believes that experiencing both lows and highs is part of life. A significant struggle he identifies is the quest for employment after completing education, regardless of the level, be it basic education or a doctorate degree.
Highlighting the changing scenario, Dr. Aseri notes that in the past, India faced limitations in terms of instruments, machines, technical information, and research resources. However, the current era boasts excellent infrastructure, laboratories, and easily accessible digital libraries, transforming the learning landscape.
He reminisces about the challenges he faced during his time, having to travel 20 kilometers by bike to a physical library for research material, a stark contrast to the convenience of today's digital access.
Additionally, Dr. Aseri recounts his entrepreneurial journey, starting a small business in bio-fertilizer production with friends in 2002. Despite transitioning to higher education, he acknowledges the increased opportunities and exposure to entrepreneurship in the current Indian landscape.
He and his colleagues inspire students at Amity University, Rajasthan, to embrace entrepreneurship. He says that in their university there is a dedicated incubator cell for nurturing innovative ideas.
Dr. Aseri underscores the evolving role of higher education, where university professors are not only educators but also entrepreneurs running their own businesses. He encourages young scholars to consider higher education as a platform for not only learning and teaching but also for venturing into entrepreneurship.
He believes that the present time offers a unique environment where working in higher education institutions provides both satisfaction and the freedom to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors, contributing to the nation's progress.
