Dr Geeta Sharma is working as a Professor at Darshan Dental College, Udaipur. She has done her BDS and MDS in Maxillofacial Surgery. She has also done a fellowship in Hair Transplant and Cosmetology in Germany.
Geeta originally hails from Lucknow. But she was born in Hyderabad and completed her entire schooling there itself. Her father served in the Army. She was the State Topper in her 12th board examinations. Later through merit, she got admission to Army College of Dental Sciences where she did her BDS. She also did her MDS and was a distinction holder in her masters.
After completing her MDS, she began her professional career as a Senior Lecturer at Darshan Dental College, Udaipur. Then she worked at RNT College as a Senior Resident. After that, she worked at Geetanjali Hospital, Udaipur for five years. Thereafter she joined as a Professor at Darshan Dental College. And it’s been nine years since she started working in Udaipur.
Geeta shares that it’s very difficult for a working woman to strike a work-life balance. She says that being an oral surgeon, she has to work neck to neck with her male counterparts and she can’t have any excuses. Her job involves not just working at the hospital but also teaching the students which is a challenge in itself.
Geeta shares that the Covid pandemic brought the whole world to a standstill. But the healthcare sector was the only sector that was working at its full capacity. She took the risk and treated patients. Besides, she says that many people suffered financial and job losses but she is happy that we are recuperating with time as we are coming back to normal.
Geeta considers her teachers who shaped her personality and guided her in the right direction as her role models.
To aspiring dental professionals, she advises that first and foremost you should have the hunger to gain knowledge and zeal to be better at what you do. Besides, she says that Dentistry demands a lot of hard work and patience and you should work hard to gain skills in the field. Furthermore, you should not just focus on earning money as the field is about selfless service and you should join it only if you want to serve society without any gains.
In her free time, she likes to do painting and gardening.
Her life mantra is to have a never-say-die attitude and never give up.
