Dr Gagan Vyas has been an Associate Professor at Pacific College of Physical Education since July 2016. Born and brought up in Udaipur, he completed his schooling from 1st grade to 5th grade at Mahila Mandal School, 6th grade to 10th grade at Vidhya Niketan School, and his senior secondary from Guru Govind School. Thereafter, Gagan did his BA at Shramjeevi College and completed both his Bachelors and Masters in Physical Education from BN College. Gagan is also a PhD holder in the subject. His academic routine involves taking exercise sessions and planning lessons for students with a theoretical perspective.
Gagan started practising swimming at five years of age and has left his imprints at the district, state and national levels. He shares that he has been a champion at the district and state level for five and three years in a row respectively. Gagan says that he couldn’t do enough at the national level owing to the dearth of swimming pool infrastructure in Udaipur at that point in time. He shares that when the infrastructure finally got into place, he had left swimming by then. He belongs to a family of sports persons wherein his elder brother is a swimmer as well.
Discussing COVID, Gagan shares that his days got monotonous and the online mode of classes became the new normal. However, his side business of tours and travels suffered and came to a standstill from which he has not been able to fully recover yet. He feels that the pandemic days were difficult for him owing to the financial crisis he faced and dependency on her mother’s pension as a source of income.
With the advent of proper swimming infrastructure, Gagan urges the youth to choose swimming since he believes it has more benefits to offer as compared to the gym in terms of fitness. However, he also mentions that the youth should take up only that sport they are truly interested in, in order to excel. He shares that one should be able to identify oneself, prepare accordingly and be self-dependent. According to Gagan, a good trainer is someone who understands a player’s emotions and feelings and is able to guide them right and see the hidden qualities in them.
Gagan’s role model are his parents since they have provided him with every facility that was required for which he is grateful. They have been his constant support during his journey, however, he feels sad to share that he lost his father in 2015.
Gagan does not believe in any success mantra and believes that we all prepare our own motivational mantra as per the need of the situation.
