Dr. Divya Jaitly is a TV Anchor and Leadership Coach,  She is the Founder of Forethought Corporate Communications in Pune. She was Miss Delhi in 2001 and later found success as a Master of Ceremony in several important events. She also hosted the coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics for Star Sports. She believes in the value of education and driven by that belief, continued her own, completing an MBA in Marketing. She is Chairperson and Advisor for the Indian Women Network of CII and a Council Member of the Young Leaders Council of the All India Management Association.

She started Kaizen Talent Management Pvt. Ltd. and introduced formal Event Management education in India. She tied up with a UGC recognised university and started Bachelor and Master programs in Event Management at her institute. She is happy that many youth from her institute are placed in top event management companies in the country today.

Hailing from Jaipur,  Dr. Divya was raised in a defence background, as her father was in the army for more than 35 years and then in the IB-RAW. Her mother is an academician with triple master degrees and a Ph.D. to her credit. She is their only child. She says the constant moving from one place to another due to transfers prepared her for the future. She participated in many sports in her childhood days. She played badminton at the state level and represented her state in swimming at the national level.

After completing her schooling, Dr. Divya came to Delhi, where she started studying to become an engineer. She wanted to join the army or go to the USA. By chance, she once saw an ad for Miss Delhi. As she was a tall girl, she applied for it just for fun. She was Miss Delhi in 2001. She also participated in the prestigious May Queen Ball, which was held in the Defense Services Officers’ Institute, and won that. That encouraged her to try for Miss India. After four gruelling preliminary rounds, she was selected among the 24 finalists for the pageant in Mumbai.

In 2004, one of her friends, who was an event manager, suggested that, as she had a good presence of mind and wit, she should try to be an emcee-Master of Ceremonies. At that time, she was already a top model in the country. Trying a new field was very risky, yet she agreed to the proposal as she had always been keen to accept challenges. Her first event was as a co-host for the Taj Hotels in Delhi.

She had difficulties initially, but then she never looked back and was unstoppable. She realised she enjoyed anchoring more than modelling. She again hosted for the Honda Group at the Auto Expo in Pragati Maidan, and that established her on the MoC map. She also started hosting on TV and appeared in programs on Zee TV, ESPN, Doordarshan, etc., which boosted her confidence.

Her Olympics coverage hosting journey started in 2004, when she did it as a junior anchor for DD Sports. Hosting the 2016 Rio Olympics on Star TV was a huge opportunity for her. She had to undergo two years of auditions before being selected for the job. As the program used to be live and she had to listen to your producer, director, and content provider in your earpiece while simultaneously interacting with the guests, who are erstwhile stars and Olympians, it was quite a tough task. Dr. Divya studied seven hours every day to assimilate information about the various sports and Olympic history. But she is happy that she aced it in the hosting of the Olympics.

Her parents always insisted that she was free to do whatever she liked, but she must continue with her education. She had in the meantime started freelance marketing consulting, but she never stopped her education. Her advice to the youngsters also is that they should never stop their education. She regrets that the youth of today want easy careers, but she warns that there are no shortcuts to success. She says education adds to your eloquence, dignity, and knowledge, which helps you a lot in building your career.

Dr. Jaitly thinks that continuing her education has paved the way for her to be an entrepreneur. She had, in the meantime, completed her MBA in Marketing. She says there is a concept called Kaizen philosophy that is taught in MBA. Kaizen means continuous improvement.

She thinks that, apart from experiential learning, good education is also very necessary. It is always there to back you up.

Dr. Divya says she thrives on people’s energy. She says she was an introvert in her childhood, but now she is an extrovert. In her free time, she likes to enjoy it with the few friends she has made. She loves many genres of music. She loves to dance. She has learned Kathak and Bharatnatyam. She also likes travelling and learning about different cultures. She wants to explore the world. She is also a big foodie and likes to eat and have fun. She loves to live life to the fullest. She also indulges in adventure sports like bungee jumping, trekking, etc.

Dr. Jaitly says that success is not measured by materialistic gains. In her opinion, success is how meaningfully you have lived your life. She feels you must be 100 percent with whatever you are doing at a time.

Talking about the pandemic, she says you should be more patient and flexible with others in these unpredictable times. She believes in the adage, "Crisis does not build character; crisis reveals character."
