By becoming a general and laparoscopic surgeon, Deepak has realized his mother’s dream, who aspired to work as a medical professional herself.

Dr. Deepak Taneja is a general and laparoscopic surgeon. He has been providing his services in this field for the past seventeen years.

Deepak graduated from a foreign university with an MBBS degree and from Chhattisgarh with a postgraduate degree. According to Deepak, becoming a doctor was never his dream. He says his mother had enrolled in a medical program in the 1970s, but because she was the only female student there, she felt extremely alone and left the field, shattering her dream of becoming a doctor. By becoming surgeons, he and his two younger siblings have made her dream come true.

Describing his experience of the COVID pandemic, Deepak mentions that he began his post-graduation in that year and was then assigned to a hospital as a resident. He asserts that in addition to carrying out his duties as a resident, he had to study for his exams. He used to study after his 12-hour shift. He can recall getting just four hours of sleep at that time. Therefore, the COVID era was actually a trying time for him.

When asked about his regrets , Deepak says that the only thing he regrets about his life, according to him, is that after his father passed away, he completely turned his attention to his family and his obligations. He  completed his post graduation after a four-year break. He feels  that despite having a greater responsibility towards his family, he should have dedicated those four years to his career.

When asked about his role models in life, Deepak says that his role model is his mother. He says  that he has watched his mother struggle with polio since he was a child and has drawn motivation from her to overcome all his own challenges. His second inspiration is a senior specialist who oversaw his post-graduate work; he also views him as his mentor and was greatly influenced by his surgical skills, which he can see in his surgery.

Deepak suggests aspiring medical professionals be sincere in their work, put their all into it, have compassion for their patients, and maintain their patients' trust.

Deepak says that with the limited spare time that he gets in the medical field, he utilizes that time to be with his family and kids in order to maintain his mental peace. He says  he is a family man, and seeing his loved ones happy makes him happy and at peace.

Deepak’s success mantra is that when you truly love what you do, you don't just do it; you start living it.
