As a Geography Professor, Deepak has been continuously working in the field to animate the difficult Geography concepts and make them easy to understand for his students. He has worked on various research projects and has contributed to the betterment of the environment.

Dr. Deepak Maheshwari is a Professor of Geography at Meera Girls College, Udaipur. He has been teaching for the last thirty-one years.

Deepak was born and brought up in Udaipur. He did his schooling at Vidya Bhawan School and completed BA, MA, and MPhil from Mohanlal Sukhadia University.

Deepak says he developed an interest in Geography while he was in ninth standard. Two of his teachers Govind Lal Menaria and Amba Lal Mathur took his counseling and suggested that he should take up geography. His parents and teachers supported and guided him throughout to establish a good career. After completing his MPhil in 1991, he pursued a one-year PG Diploma course in Environmental Science and Ecology from Delhi. Soon after that, he was appointed as a college lecturer by the Education Department of the Government of Rajasthan. He started his teaching journey at Shree Bhogilal Pandya Government College, Dungarpur, and served there as a Geography teacher from 1992 to 1997. Thereafter he taught at Seth Mathura Das Binani Government P. G. College of Nathdwara, Nathdwara for seventeen years and then shifted to Udaipur.

While working as a lecturer, Deepak realized that he should also work on other relatable fields and started writing books in 1997. Till 2019, he had got 19 of his books published among which one of the books is published by Rajasthan Hindi Granth Academy and its ninth edition is currently in the process of publication. After completion of eight editions of this book, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot felicitated him and his guru Dr. Rajmal Lodha, says Deepak.

While working on his book, Deepak also learned geographical information systems and remote sensing techniques to map his book properly. Thereafter, he developed interest in research and completed one major research project and three minor research projects with the help of the Vishwavidyalaya Anudan Aayog. He also used those techniques to analyze various environmental issues and got the outcomes published in the newspapers.

In 2014, the then Udaipur District Collector asked him to make a plan for the Udaipur Ring Road. In 2017, on the request of the then PHED minister, Deepak created maps for the village-level underground water table and water quality of the entire Rajasthan state which were later used in planning. In 2018,  Deepak mapped the hills around Udaipur for the UIT.

While doing his  research work, he also learned how to make video tutorials with an aim to make his students gain knowledge in an interactive way during COVID. Within six months, he learned HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript and started making video tutorials.

Speaking about his achievements, Deepak says that despite being a non-technical person, he made a technical project, an Interactive Video Tutorial project, and presented it in the EduHack competition organized by the then IT Minister. The project became a major success by winning the first position in Rajasthan. While making his project, he decided to animate the physical concepts and theories for the easy understanding of the students. He learned Cinema 4D software for thirteen months, used the software, and transformed difficult physical geography concepts into animation for the students. He posted his videos on his YouTube channel and has published 116 such videos to date. In 2021, he received the Shikshak Samman Puraskar from the then Education Minister of Rajasthan.

Talking about his role models, Deepak says that his mother and his teachers have been his role models for shaping up his future throughout his journey.

Deepak says that he does not believe in getting involved in the endless race of competition, rather he believes in focusing and working with mindfulness. He says that one should exercise and meditate daily which has a lot of benefits and helps you to work happily and with focus.

When asked how he deals with stress, Deepak says that he has been practicing breathing exercises and meditation for the last thirty-five years. He says that singing religious prayers shlokas is his hobby and it helps him feel energetic.

Talking about his success mantra, Deepak says that he believes in the phrase, “Die Empty”. He closely follows the phrase and says that at this stage of his life, he feels that a person should not leave any of his wishes unfulfilled. God has given us thinking power and has made us better creatures, so we should not go to deathbed with the regret of any work left incomplete.

Conveying his message to people, Deepak says that God will never break the nut that you want to eat. Similarly, unless you take action, unless you work hard to achieve your objective, you cannot get success.
