To be ignorant of the law leads to anarchy in society.

Dr Rajshree Choudhary is an Associate Professor at the University College of Law, and is presently working as a Dean. Born in Bikaner, she completed her schooling till the 7th standard there and completed the rest of her education in Jodhpur, her native place. Thereafter, Rajshree did her BSc and was not much inclined towards doing MSc since she wanted to work for social causes. She shares that people in her village used to have a biased attitude towards girls which she never approved of.
One fine day, she came across a movie featuring the role played by an advocate and was touched by this noble profession. This is when her curiosity in Law was born and she decided to pursue it. However, it wasn’t an easy step to take since her father wasn’t in favour of Rajshree pursuing Law and so was her husband after her marriage. But her sheer determination and the willingness to bring the desired change in society made her complete her Law degree.
However, the real struggle began when Rajshree had to practice Law and being a soft-hearted person, she couldn’t perform well. Rajshree thought of pursuing a PhD and getting into academia since at that point in time very few girls used to sign up for Law. Rajshree used this opportunity to motivate the youth by teaching law as a subject. Her journey continued but as it is said nothing comes easy in life, and it took a long time for Rajshree to make students get used to her and respect her. She shares that being a female teacher, it was a difficult affair for her to earn the students’ acceptance, however with time things got sorted out.
Discussing COVID, Rajshree says that since she is not much a techno-friendly person, it was initially a struggle for her to manage the online sessions. She shares that the students sometimes couldn’t connect owing to network issues. On the other hand, she feels that COVID made us realize how important it is to stay together spreading happiness and sharing sorrows.
Rajshree feels that education shows you the path but experience makes you a better person. For her, moulding theory into practicality has had better learning outcomes. Sharing her perspective on Law, Rajshree shares that everyone should have a basic knowledge of the laws and know that one can attract a penalty if they break them.
Rajshree considers her father as her role model who provided good education to her daughters though not being much appreciated by society for this and also for moving them out of the orthodox purdah system.
Rajshree feels that today’s generation is very smart and teachers need to channelize their energy in the right direction which in turn will contribute to the nation.
In her leisure time, she likes to spend time with her friends, do painting and take her daughter for swimming.
If she could go back in a time machine, she would like to revisit her school days, perform better and opt for Medicine which was her father’s dream.
Rajshree is inspired by the quote of Swami Vivekananda which goes like “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached.” She believes in living in the present and doing something good for society whenever given an opportunity.
