Dr. Chavi Gupta has been working in the education field for the last twelve years. She is an Educational Consultant and a Senior Resource Person at UNICEF. Chavi focuses on the overall development of students so that they are able to apply all their learning in practical life.
Chavi says that pursuing her interest in plants and the environment, she opted for biology and pursued all her degrees in it, including a PhD in Microbiology. She also cleared UGC-NET and completed her studies on scholarship. She slowly stepped into the research field and was also recognised as a meritorious student by the Department of Science and Technology and awarded the Inspiro fellowship.
While pursuing her PhD, Chavi was blessed with a daughter, which was a challenging time for her. However, with the support of her father, she could sail through her PhD journey while managing her responsibilities at home. Chavi was also selected for the National Chemical Laboratory, where she underwent training. She soon began her research on herbal supplements for babies that could increase the quantity of mothers’ milk. Down the line, Chavi felt the urge to contribute to society, which tweaked her path of research.
Talking about her challenges, Chavi says that it was not easy for her to move out for further education. She also lost her mother, which resulted in a career break. However, she transformed all those obstacles into an opportunity and started her journey in the social sector.
Chavi joined the Azim Premji Foundation as a resource person. She aims to help government school students enhance their knowledge outside of textbooks and provide them with an ocean of opportunities. Chavi was inspired by the Lifestyle Education Program, which taught her to take a stand for herself and not pay much heed to society.
Chavi says she experiences a sense of achievement when she is able to help the needy financially, especially women and girls.
When asked about her thoughts on education and experience, Chavi says that while education enhances one’s knowledge base, experience introduces you to the reality and practicality of life.
She advises the youth to be positive and not let negative thoughts build up. Chavi believes that one should be independent enough to take decisions in life.
Chavi says that girls should be taught self-defense as part of their education.
When asked about her role models, Chavi shares that she draws her inspiration from her parents. On the professional front, she is thankful to her teacher, who taught her to learn science with fun.
Chavi’s life mantra is to believe in yourself and grab opportunities along the way.
