Dr. Kamlesh Bhatt is the Director of Critical Care and Consultant for Infectious Diseases at GBH American Hospital, Udaipur. He has more than fifteen years of experience in critical care. He says that during this period, he developed a keen interest in infectious diseases, so he got trained in that too. At present, he is heading the critical care department and looking after all types of infectious diseases at GBH American Hospital.
Dr. Kamlesh hails from Udaipur. He did his primary education at St. Teresa School, and then he joined Vidya Bhavan School. He got his degree in medicine from RNT Medical College. He went to Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, to pursue his postgraduate degree and completed his DNB Medicine from there. He says getting exposed to Mumbai life straight from Rajasthan was a very different experience for him.
During his P.G., he was posted several times in the ICU, and then the thought of becoming a critical care expert came to his mind. However, after finishing his training in medicine, he entered critical care, did SR in critical care for a few years, and started working as an assistant consultant.
One fine day, Dr. Kamlesh realized that he should get a formal degree in critical care, and hence he took his DM super speciality entrance test again and got selected for FNB Critical Care. He joined Kim’s Health Hospital in Trivandrum for his super-specialization.
Dr. Kamlesh was inspired to become a doctor during his 5th-grade visit to his father’s colleague in the hospital. Supported by his family, his interest in the medical field started in childhood.
Dr. Kamlesh says that becoming a doctor is, of course, fun, but it takes a lot of hard work, commitment, dedication, and sacrifice.
Discussing the COVID pandemic, Dr. Kamlesh says the entire world was unaware of its harsh implications and didn’t know how to deal with it. He says that he dealt with a lot of patients with different problems and treated them diligently, despite COVID being a contagious disease.
Dr. Kamlesh credits his family and teachers, including Sister Robert from St. Teresa School and some from Vidya Bhavan School, for shaping him into the person he is today. In his professional journey, all his RNT Medical College teachers and seniors are his role models. He gives special consideration to Dr. Bharat Shah from Hinduja Hospital for giving him a chance to train under him and teach medicine. Lastly, his teacher, Dr. Suresh Kumar from Trivandrum, taught him critical care and how to approach these situations.
Dr. Kamlesh advises the newcomers that you should feel proud to be a doctor, for it is a very noble profession. He suggests that you should keep yourself updated, be passionate about your profession, have a sacrificing approach, and have good communication skills.
If Dr. Kamlesh was given a chance to time travel, he would like to go back to his school life and want to relive those moments again.
Apart from work, Dr. Kamlesh enjoys singing.
