With a deep passion for agriculture, Dr. Bhagwat Singh pursued a PhD in the subject, driven by a desire to contribute to the field and support the country's farmers. His dedication and achievements have undoubtedly brought pride to his father.

Dr. Bhagwat Singh is a Subject Matter Specialist, currently employed at Vidya Bhawan Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Udaipur since 2019.

Originally from a small village near Udaipur, Dr. Bhagwat completed his BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees at MPUAT, Udaipur. Having pursued his entire education in Udaipur and with his family residing there, he aspired to establish his career in the same city. So, he applied for a position at Vidya Bhawan and got selected; he has been working there since 2019.

Looking back on his childhood, Dr. Bhagwat recalls being born and raised in Udaipur, where his father worked. He fondly remembers spending his summer breaks visiting his village, where he enjoyed swimming in the well. Engaging in extracurricular activities at school, he excelled as the top debater and basketball player. Growing up in a farming family, he naturally developed an interest in agriculture and decided to pursue a degree in the field.

After completing his MSc, Dr. Bhagwat received a job offer from the Mahindra Group, with a posting in Vadodara. Despite this opportunity, he remained committed to fulfilling his childhood aspiration and his father's dream of obtaining a PhD in Agriculture. Therefore, he appeared for the entrance exam for a PhD program and secured admission. During his doctoral studies, he received another job offer from Chambal Fertilisers, who offered him an attractive package. However, following his father's advice, he chose to prioritise completing his PhD, which he eventually earned in 2016.

After completing his PhD, Dr. Bhagwat struggled to find a suitable job. Eventually, he took a position in a private company. He often regrets the missed opportunities at Mahindra and Chambal Fertilisers. However, he finds solace in his father's words, saying that if he had accepted those job offers, he might not have completed his PhD and wouldn't have earned the prestigious title of "Doctor."

Regarding role models, Dr. Bhagwat says that he looks up to his father. His father always encouraged him and his brother to pursue higher education and make a positive impact in society. His father instilled in him the values of honesty and dedication. His brother also played a significant role in inspiring him to pursue and achieve his goals. Additionally, a neighbour who was a colleague of his father, provided guidance and support throughout his academic journey.

Dr. Bhagwat describes the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the most challenging periods of his life. He shares that his elder brother, his wife, and his four-year-old daughter all contracted the virus. Witnessing his family in pain was extremely stressful for him, but he managed to maintain his composure and fulfil his responsibilities both at home and at work.

Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Bhagwat tries to find time for leisure activities. He enjoys walking and exploring new places. Due to his passion for sports, he ensures to dedicate at least ten minutes a day to playing any sport that he can.

Dr. Bhagwat advises young individuals to follow their passions rather than giving in to societal pressures when choosing a career. He emphasises that those interested in pursuing a career in agriculture must grasp the fundamentals of a farmer's life and the daily tasks they undertake. To excel in this profession, one should actively engage in farming and participate in agricultural activities in the fields.
