Avneet Kaur is an MD Radiologist by profession and a Kathak dancer by passion.
Avneet says that being a doctor is not only about treating people but also about patient interaction. She emphasizes the importance of kindness and making patients feel comfortable. Avneet highlights that entering this profession requires dedication due to its lengthy process and demanding nature.
Avneet shares that her interest in the field of medicine grew during her 11th and 12th grade when she enjoyed studying science. Initially unsure about her future path, she took both Math and Biology, but gradually her interest in Biology increased, leading her to choose it as her career.
Avneet completed her MBBS from Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune and internship from a medical college in Siliguri, West Bengal. After that she completed her postgraduate from P.G. Hospital Kolkata.
Originally from Siliguri, West Bengal, Avneet comes from the Sikh community . Growing up, she learned to read and write Bengali in school, which exposed her to a mixed culture. She is currently married into a Punjabi family in Amritsar, Punjab. Avneet describes Amritsar as a beautiful city and expresses her gratitude towards everyone for the journey she has had thus far.
Avneet considers her maternal grandfather her role model, citing his resilience and positivity despite battling cancer. Additionally, she looks up to her father, who she witnessed constantly striving in life. She says that her ultimate motivation and inspiration come from her son, who keeps her going.
Avneet firmly believes in the quote "Never lose hope" and finds it empowering.
Apart from her medical achievements, Avneet takes pride in completing a five-year course in Kathak and subsequently learning Bharatnatyam for two years. She used to perform in college festivals and finds dancing therapeutic.
For those aspiring to enter her field, Avneet advises clearing the entrance exam NEET, which determines placement in a medical college based on rank. Following this, a five-year MBBS program is completed, and then the NEET PG exam is taken to choose a specialization based on rank.
Avneet values experience over bookish knowledge, emphasizing its importance in life.
Avneet advises the younger generation to reduce social media involvement and prioritize real social connections with family and friends while staying connected to the roots.
Given the chance to go back in time, Avneet would choose to relive her college years, cherishing the strong bond she shares with her college friends that remains unchanged to this day.
