Arpit Bansal is a laparoscopic and cancer surgeon. He is also the director of Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Allahabad.
Arpit credits his inspiration for the medical field to his parents, as both of his parents are doctors. He would see his parents work and how they would help people, and eventually he would want to help others too. Being a surgeon, he does all kinds of advanced cancer surgeries. He has been practicing for the past ten years and took charge of the hospital when his father passed away. Now he administers the hospital along with his mother.
Born in Ranchi and raised in Allahabad, Arpit went to Mayo College from the 4th grade onwards. Talking about his childhood, he says that Mayo College, a boarding school, played a great role in shaping him into the person that he is today. It made him an independent and extroverted person and brought him closer to nature. He returned to Allahabad in the eighth grade and stayed until the tenth. Later, he went to DPS, R.K. Puram, for his higher secondary studies. Arpit went to Mumbai to pursue his MBBS. He did his master's degree in Nagpur and advanced laparoscopic training in Pune, followed by cancer training in Ahmedabad. He also went to the UK and the US in between.
When he was a kid, Arpit considered his father, Dr. A. K. Bansal, his role model. His father took him to an operation theater at a very young age and got him acquainted with its functioning. Besides, he also acknowledges the role his mother played in shaping him. He considers Dr. Murtuza Akhtar his role model, who was his HOD during his master's degree, and also looks up to Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, under whom he did his advanced laparoscopy training.
Arpit believes in spirituality. He says that we are a soul that is looking for its purpose. Apart from his profession, Arpit believes in helping people. During COVID-19, too, he also gave free consultations to people.
When asked about struggles, Arpit says that everyone faces challenges in their lives. He, too, faced some challenges in his life. But he always used spirituality as the backbone while dealing with those challenges. He is of the opinion that spiritual strength is as important as physical strength. He advises the youth not to limit their spirituality to singing hymns but to make themselves content with the life they live.
When asked about any mistakes he made, Arpit said that nobody is born perfect. Everybody makes mistakes in their life. But we should learn from our mistakes and those of others while trying not to repeat them. He advises youngsters to choose their company wisely, as the kind of friends we choose matters a lot. Also, during his MBBS degree, he mentions that he got into bad company but was smart enough to step out of it in time. He also regrets having worked much harder during his MS degree, but he is determined to make up for it now.
According to Arpit, learning is a continuous process in his profession. He also faces a few challenges where patients might blame him for treatments that are not favorable. He adds that having difficult surgeries is inevitable, but he suggests recording those surgeries and learning from them later.
To unwind, Arpit likes to do meditation. He has been doing meditation for a long time and is a passionate bird photographer too. He likes to go bird-watching and has seen more than nine hundred species of birds so far.
Arpit’s concluding message to all is, "Live in the present, keep meditating, be positive, learn from the lessons in your life, and keep progressing!"
