The best doctors give the least medicine.
Dr. Ankur Jain is an MD and DM in gastroenterology, working at the GBH American Hospital, Udaipur.
Ankur’s father is a chemist, and this gave him the inspiration to become a doctor. He completed his MBBS from RNT Medical College, Udaipur, in 2011, followed by an MD in Medicine from GMC Amritsar in 2016, and then a DM in Gastroenterology from VS Hospital, Ahmedabad, in 2019. Ankur chose gastroenterology as he achieved a good rank in the entrance exam after completing his DM, and gastroenterology was a popular choice among toppers, so he too chose it.
Ankur says that COVID-19 was a very difficult phase for everyone. As a doctor, he says that it was a challenging time as doctors had to do unending and tiring shifts without taking breaks and working for hours till the end. He also says that the lack of knowledge among the general public was also an issue, as many people were not visiting the hospitals on time, thus leading to even more severe conditions.
For those who want to be doctors in the future, Ankur suggests that they should choose the biology stream after completing their secondary education and subsequently appear for the NEET exam. He says that patience and determination for becoming a doctor are also very important.
Ankur says that in the medical field, education is more important than experience, as education forms the basis of your practice. He says you can gain experience while practicing, but to become a practitioner, first you’ll have to attain a degree.
According to Ankur, a good leader is one who takes the whole team together and keeps the balance between being too emotional and having empathy for his teammates.
Ankur considers his father to be his role model, who has guided him at every stage of life and motivated him to become a doctor.
