Dr. Ankit Jain is the Reproduction and Child Health Officer of the District Health Department in Udaipur.
Dr. Ankit assumed this position recently, about a month ago. Before working here, he served as a nodal officer in the health department. He has been fascinated by the idea of pursuing medical studies since childhood. Slowly and gradually, medicine became his passion. He went on to complete his graduation in medical sciences after school in Delhi. It had been a good learning experience for him in Delhi, where he had opened his first clinic after graduation.
Dr. Ankit is privileged to have been born into a well-to-do family. His parents had to work hard to establish themselves, and he respects them for having provided the next generation with all the essentials required. He recalls a childhood memory of cheating in examinations and paid dearly for that, which taught him a lifelong lesson to always be honest in life.
Dr. Ankit did not have to face many setbacks in his personal and professional life. Even when he does, he likes to believe it is part and parcel of life. Every experience, good or bad, is a lesson well learned. One must have faith in challenging situations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Ankit and his medical staff had to face a number of challenges. He states that lack of awareness was a key factor in the poor initial response to the pandemic. Many patients who had initial symptoms of COVID-19 did not bother to visit doctors until the last moment. They required special medical attention. Some patients were also required to be sent to the ventilation chamber.
Nevertheless, Dr. Ankit successfully administered as many cases as he could. He believes that the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff played an essential role in risking their lives during the pandemic to save the lives of the citizens. He feels proud to have been a part of this battle against the pandemic.
In his free time, Dr. Ankit likes to play basketball. He believes that service to humanity is the highest form of humanitarian service. He adds that a doctor must possess this attitude to save people over anything else. The more knowledge and experience a doctor has, the higher his success rate in critical conditions. Moreover, Dr. Ankit says one must always think rationally and remain calm during emergencies.
Dr. Ankit has had various role models in different phases and parts of his life. He says everyone has a positive value from which one can learn something. He likes to stay in the present moment and does not want to change anything in his past. On a concluding note, he says one should think positively and be optimistic.
