Dr. Altaf Hussain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Gajraula, Uttar Pradesh. He has been working at VIMS for the last two years.
Talking about the Department of Orthopedics at VIMS, Dr. Hussain shares that the department offers a range of services like joint replacement, arthroscopic surgeries, primary and complex trauma treatments in addition to spinal surgeries.
Dr. Atlaf feels that the satisfaction one gets after healing patients and treating them does not exist in any other profession. This is what inspired him to join the medical fraternity.
Reflecting on his early days, Dr. Altaf Hussain shares that he was born in Ladakh, a beautiful mountainous region where he learnt to live a simple and disciplined life.
Dr. Hussain recalls that he always wanted to become an Orthopedic Surgeon and is the first doctor in his family. He has completed his MS in Orthopedics from JIPMER- Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry.
When asked about his role models, Dr. Hussain says he draws inspiration from boxer Muhammad Ali and tennis player Rafael Nadal. He admires them for their achievements both on and off the field, for their ability to face adversity, and for their unwavering discipline.
Advising young medical professionals, Dr. Altaf emphasizes the importance of developing compassion for their patients' suffering, as patients often approach doctors in their most vulnerable state. He believes this value should be instilled in both current and future medical practitioners.
