In his capacity as Associate Dean-Engineering, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni looks after the activities of four departments: Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. He believes that each of these branches holds tremendous potential within itself and offers ample opportunities for students who wish to pursue their careers in these domains.

HoD Dr. Ajay Kulkarni observes that in the present scenario, the coming era will strongly belong to VLSI- Very Large Scale Integration, which he describes as a contemporary and highly promising field with abundant opportunities. Along with this, he highlights Robotics and Automation as another very promising emerging domain, closely connected with cyber-physical systems, smart cities, Industry 4.0, Industrial Internet of Things, and several other integrated technologies that are rapidly expanding.

Dr. Ajay Kulkarni further explains that in the field of Electrical Engineering, electric vehicles represent a highly promising and rapidly growing area. In Civil Engineering, he describes the discipline as ever-growing and ever-changing, dynamically integrating computer technologies such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence with existing engineering systems. He always advises students to pursue careers in these emerging areas because technology is changing rapidly, and one must avoid a conservative mindset.

Speaking about his inspiration to join the teaching field, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni says that naming only one individual would not do justice to others who have influenced him. He sincerely acknowledges the contribution of all the dedicated teachers from whom he received guidance during his schooling, graduation, post-graduation, and doctoral studies. He reflects on a message that deeply touched him: “Education does not mean the transformation of information; it means the transformation of life.” This philosophy inspired Dr. Ajay Kulkarni to dedicate himself to the field of academics.

Dr. Ajay Kulkarni was born in Indore and describes his childhood as smooth and joyful, enriched by caring, loving, and disciplined parents. He expresses gratitude to the Almighty for the steady and positive progression of his academics. He began his schooling at National Convent Higher Secondary School in Narayan Bagh, Indore, where he was introduced to new concepts and foundational learning under the guidance of dedicated teachers. Later, he continued his studies at Vaishnav Higher Secondary School and after completing his twelfth grade, he pursued his undergraduate degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science under Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.

After completing his graduation, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni pursued post-graduation in Electrical Engineering from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad. He describes his experience at NIT Allahabad as enriching and enlightening, where he gained exposure to research methodology, the true meaning of research, methods of conducting research, focusing on academic problems, and publishing scholarly work. He expresses deep gratitude to the faculty members of the institute for shaping his research orientation. Later, he completed his doctoral degree from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, under the guidance of Dr. Abhay Kumar in the School of Electronics, and subsequently received the opportunity to serve the same institute in an academic capacity.

As an academician, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni states that his primary inclination has always been toward academics. He acknowledges that certain allied aspects are essential to strengthen academic effectiveness. Swami Vivekananda remains one of his major sources of inspiration. Although many consider Swami Vivekananda primarily a spiritual personality, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni believes that a deeper understanding of his teachings reveals him to be an eminent academician.

He emphasizes that education is not about memorizing content and reproducing it in examinations to secure marks. Instead, education transforms an individual into a society-ready person who embodies responsibility, honesty, dedication, and purpose. Inspired by this philosophy, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni chose academics as a noble profession and strives to contribute meaningfully to society in accordance with these teachings.

Regarding hardships, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni expresses that he has been fortunate to meet good people throughout his life and career. He believes that if someone appears not good, it may reflect a limitation in one’s own ability to recognize the goodness within that person. He remains thankful to everyone from whom he has received guidance and learning, and he consistently maintains a mindset of learning from others.

Dr. Ajay Kulkarni has been associated with academics for more than twenty-five years. After completing his graduation, he initially served in industry for two years before transitioning into education. Beginning his academic career as a lecturer, he gradually progressed through the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, and now Associate Dean -Engineering Core.

Throughout his path, Dr. Ajay Kulkarni emphasizes that teaching is inherently learning-centric, providing opportunities not only to teach but also to continuously learn. Although responsibilities evolve with higher positions, his objective remains unchanged: to work with dedication, honesty, and a clear sense of purpose.
