Dr. Ajat Shatru Singh Shivrati is a successful Advocate and Professor hailing from the Shivrati Royal Family of the Mewar Dynasty. Despite coming from such a privileged background, he had a very simple upbringing. His father, who had a significant influence on his life, taught him how to live a traditional and meaningful life.
Sharing his educational qualifications, Ajat says that he did his matriculation from Alok Senior Secondary School and his higher secondary education from Maharana Mewar Public School(MMPS). He pursued his graduation from Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, post graduation from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, and finally, he did his PhD from Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth itself. He cleared the NET exam in 2005.
Ajat recalls that being the university captain, in 1992, he went to play in the Rajasthan level Under-19 Cricket Tournament but was not chosen in the final eleven. Being disappointed by that, Ajat chose to change his field and explored the BCCI qualifying requirements for umpires. He was appointed a State Panelled Umpire of the Rajasthan Cricket Association in 1992 at the incredibly young age of eighteen. Gradually, he rose to the position of a BCCI Level 1 Umpire in 2009, a BCCI Level 2 Umpire in 2012, and is currently umpiring in the board level matches too.
Putting light on his academic journey, Ajat says that he is a professor at a university. He has offered his guidance to various students, nine among which have been awarded PhD. under his supervision and he aims to continue assisting more students.
Ajat advises the young people interested in cricket that they can pursue their career in umpiring or scoring if they are unable to get to the desired level as a player. The idea that only a cricket player can become an umpire is untrue, says Ajat. One can easily become an umpire by reading the MCC Laws of Cricket book and obtaining practical knowledge. Apart from umpiring and scoring, one can also become a commentator.
When asked how he got interested in cricket, Ajat says that one of his forefathers Late Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar introduced cricket in Rajasthan. Thereafter, his father played cricket, and taking inspiration from his family members, Ajat also decided to join the cricket field. He says that in 1998 he began coaching female cricket aspirants at Meera Girls College in Udaipur for free. He says that the Physical Instructor, Professor Akshay Shukla at the college always supported him in training the girls. Thereafter, he became the Joint Secretary of the Rajasthan Women’s Cricket Association and in 2002, he coached Rajasthan's Girls Cricket Team and the team made it to the semi-finals in the national level tournament. He claims that around ten girls who got trained under his supervision are playing on significant levels today.
Reflecting on his childhood, Ajat says that his father always wanted him to become a doctor but his inclination was towards horse riding. Ajat learned horse riding under the guidance of Narendra Singh Mewar and is imparting the same training to his daughter who is a polo player.
When asked about his achievements, Ajat says that he completed his Ph.D at the young age of 25. Thereafter, he became a lecturer in various colleges. He says that nine scholars have already been awarded Ph.D under his guidance and he is guiding three more scholars for the same. He has written five books to date based on the social life of the Rajput community, about the Mewar Rajputs of the 18th and 19th centuries, about the history of ancient India, and more such topics. He informs that he organized around forty-five conferences, seminars or workshops during the COVID period with an aim to promote Mewar’s history and those seminars were attended by various famous historians.
Ajat Shatru says that when he was in college he was told to complete his education by his own earning. During that time he bought two buses through an RSM tender. He says that he belonged to a well-reputed family but even drove buses in the absence of the drivers. He says that he feels proud of whatever he has been and has done in his life to date. He asserts that Dr. Ajat Shatru Singh Shivrati is a recognized name in the industry and he has made a lot of efforts to grow from zero to a recognized personality.
Ajat says that from 2001 to 2013, there were no vacant government posts and during that time he had the opportunity to pursue B.Ed and BPEd, however, he had a clear goal to become a college lecturer. He pursued his dream and is currently satisfied with his life.
Talking about his role models, Ajat says that due to the simplicity of his father, he drew a lot of inspiration from him. Inspite of scolding him for his wrongdoings, his father always guided him how not to repeat the mistake. He says that his father was the one who made him believe in God and his teachings have been his guiding hand throughout. He says that his father wanted him to become a doctor and he pursued PhD in order to get a ‘Dr’ prefix to fulfill his father’s dream.
Getting inspired by his father, Ajat established an NGO in 2005 by the name Maharaj Shatru Daman Singh Shivrati Vidyapeeth Sansthan. He says that he established the NGO for his personal interest in glorifying his father’s memories but today the NGO has been helping society in various ways. There are various schools running under this NGO, and many conferences and cricket tournaments are organized through this NGO. Besides, every year he confers the Pratap Gaurav Samman to one historian who is working for the welfare of Mewar.
Adding to his story, Ajat says that he is a member of the Lakecity Press Club and also owns a news channel by the name UdaipurInsights.com where he and his team have interviewed various famous dignitaries.
Conveying his message to the people, Ajat says that hard work is the one and only way to achieve success in life. There are no ifs and buts to achieving your goals. Always believe in God, avoid shortcuts, and move in one single direction; success will definitely come your way.
To the youngsters, Ajat says that if you appear for an interview, despite all the mental pressure you have, keep your confidence level high and the result will definitely be positive.
Urging the young Indians, Ajat says that don't be misled by someone and take such a step that will harm you as well as your country. Broaden your thinking and fulfill your responsibilities towards yourself and towards the country.
He further says that people should always pursue a career that satisfies them. Giving his own example, Ajat says that apart from being a Professor and BCCI Umpire, he has also pursued LLB LLM. He has also got a guiding license. He says that RTDC got inspired by his guiding work and selected him along with four other guides to give a tour to the attendees of the recently held G20 meeting.
Sharing his life mantra, Ajat says he believes that there are no shortcuts to success. One needs to work hard, stay positive, and have the willpower to achieve something in life.
