A veteran industrial contractor and interior designer, Dolat Bhai Mistry has made his own empire from scratch to be where he stands today.

Dolat Bhai Moti Bhai Mistry hails from a small village near Kurabad. He left Udaipur in the year 1989 owing to a bet placed between him and one of his friends. He bet his friend that he would leave the city and move to Ahmedabad and find a job. He was so confident that he got into a truck overnight without any address, to chase his dreams. He reached Ahmedabad and took up a very nominal job for six months. Soon, he got an offer to work on a contract basis as a laborer on a construction site, and he realized he could earn ten times more working on a contract and decided to become a contractor. His life completely changed and today, his company is working on multiple multi-million projects doing both their construction as well as their interiors. Interior designing work is done completely in-house by his son in order to save time and cost.

In his early days, Dolat Bhai did a lot of small errands in and outside Udaipur to keep the income flowing. He worked in a tea shop in Mumbai, he worked as a carpenter for a one rupee per day wage and he also worked as an independent carpenter after taking up a loan and setting up his own shop. He almost lost one of his hands in an accident. He faced a lot of struggles along the way, met a lot of people who cheated on him but still, he never gave up on his dream to achieve the greater good in life.

Dolat Bhai came from a very small village where there was no emphasis on education. There was no school in and around five kms near his house. Despite all that, Dolat Bhai was always very active since his childhood and took great interest in learning new things.

Talking about his success mantra in life, Dolat Bhai says it has always been his strong network, his honesty, credibility and his determination to work before asking for a price. He advises everyone to be very gentle with their customers and keep a good amount of transparency. If they are honest and work hard, they can achieve anything in life. He says whatever he is today, it is because of his hard work and skills.

Asked if he would like to go back in time and change something, Dolat Bhai says he has always been down to earth his entire life. Even if he is sent back to the village that he came from, he would be happy to live that life once again. He says whatever he has earned today is just a surplus in the wealth of happiness and contentment he has in his life.

Dolat Bhai says the best business in the world for him is the furniture business because there is infinite profit in it. He recalls how he once had to face a huge loss where he had to sell his property to compensate. But, he was able to recover all the money as well as the property back in just one year’s time with his hard work and perseverance.
