Cardiology is an emerging field, and many times you might have to run in the middle of the night to save the lives of patients.
Dr. Ramesh Patel is a cardiologist at Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital in Udaipur. With a specialization in heart, blood vessel, and vein conditions, he has been serving patients at the hospital since 2015.
Talking about his journey, Ramesh says that he was born and brought up in Udaipur. He did his MBBS at RNT Medical College, Udaipur. Ramesh did his DM course at a prestigious college in Chandigarh.
Through his educational journey, Ramesh acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to specialize in complex cardiac treatment techniques.
After completing his DM course in Chandigarh in 2015, he aspired to join a healthcare facility where he could make a significant impact on people's lives. This led him to work in Udaipur, where he could fulfill his passion for helping numerous patients.
Ramesh admits that he has faced the challenges of adapting to a new work environment and understanding the hospital's culture. Along with this, he encountered healthy competition among his colleagues. Over time, he gained the trust and respect of his seniors at Geetanjali Cardiovascular Hospital and brought new treatment options to the forefront, including the treatment of valves with ease.
Ramesh shares that he introduced advanced treatment techniques in Udaipur that garnered significant attention. Many people were pleasantly surprised to discover that such innovative treatments were available locally.
Ramesh says that more and more students in the medical domain must aim to become cardiologists. According to him, the cardiology sector in India is understaffed, and for this reason, he highlights the importance of a cardiologist in every city, even the small ones.
Ramesh shares that he is associated with many heart-related associations and groups in the country. He says that these associations aim to make the field of cardiology better in India. One can quickly access expertise around the country relating to cardiovascular treatment.
Ramesh’s advice for aspiring doctors is to put all their dedication into their work because it is a long journey to become a doctor. He says that to become a cardiologist, one has to invest around ten years of their life studying alone.
When asked what he would do if given a time machine, Ramesh says that he would aim to become a cardiologist only. When he saves the life of a critically ill patient, he gets a lot of good wishes from the grateful family members, which is very satisfying for him.
Ramesh values experience more as a doctor, as it increases your expertise in the field. But he also stresses the role of education in building a base. Education clarifies your concepts and understanding of the craft, but to improve on the craft, you have to have experience.
Ramesh stresses keeping the stress level in check by doing some leisure activities like reading books or doing something that gives you peace. He urges people to incorporate a healthy diet, avoid junk food, and stay physically active.
To keep your heart in healthy shape, Ramesh advises doing daily exercise for at least fifteen to twenty minutes. And people who have diabetes or high or low blood pressure should also be careful and get timely heart checkups. For heart patients, he says that timely treatment can prolong one’s life.
Ramesh draws inspiration from the wisdom of Swami Vivekananda. The quote that resonates deeply with him is, "Arise! Awake! And do not stop until the goal is achieved."
