Divya Singhatwaria is working as a system software engineer at NVIDIA Graphics Pvt. Ltd. in Bangalore.
Divya was born and raised in Udaipur. She went to St. Mary’s School. After completing her schooling, she did a B.Tech. in E.C.E. from Techno India NJR Institute of Technology in Udaipur itself.
Divya says that her father always supported her to pursue whatever she wanted. Growing up, she wanted to become a doctor. But in her later classes, she found out that physics and mathematics were the subjects she really enjoyed studying. Hence, she thought of becoming an engineer. She expresses her desire to prepare for IIT-JEE; however, due to concerns about intense competition and a reluctance to stay away from her family during coaching in Kota, she opted to pursue her engineering studies in Udaipur.
Divya says she got good guidance from her teachers during engineering. She got placed at the same company where she did her summer training. She also got placed at Infosys. But she was more interested in hardware than software, so she chose the first company that manufactured electronic chips. She worked there for about three years. Then she worked at Harman International as a software engineer. Thereafter, she got the opportunity to work for NVIDIA Graphics Pvt. Ltd., and she considers herself lucky enough to have gotten this job.
Divya has considered different people as her role models at different times. The late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has been her role model. Besides, she has also considered her school teachers, college professors, mentors, and seniors at the workplace as her role models.
For youngsters, she advises that they need to have clarity with regard to what career they want to choose. They should discuss with their teachers and also take advantage of the internet to decide what really interests them. Besides, they must have patience, perseverance, and dedication to achieve their dreams.
In her spare time, Divya likes to read non-fiction and self-help books. She also likes traveling, trekking, hiking, cooking, surfing the internet, etc.
Even if she could go back in time, she would not want to change anything, as she believes that changing anything from the past would inevitably change who she is today. Though she would want to relive the moment when she got her first job,
Divya thinks that both education and experience are important in life. She says education gives you a holistic picture of things. She also adds that the goal of education should be to make one a critical thinker.
Her success mantra is not to shy away from working hard. She always tries to keep a positive outlook on life, as it helps her keep going when things are tough.
For engineering students, her advice is that they should develop logical and reasoning abilities. Besides, they should learn how to code, as at the end of the day, they will be required to interact with machines, and machines need to be programmed. Besides, she advises them to get hands-on experience by doing academic projects. And for those who want to pursue an MBA after engineering, she advises them to first get a couple of years of work experience and then go for an MBA.
