Divya Sharma is a Hindustani Classical Vocalist in Bhopal.
Divya got her training under Pt. Kundanmal Sharma in Jaipur, and then from 2004 onwards she trained under the guidance of her guru Padma Bhushan, Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra. She is still continuing to get guidance from Pt. Sajan Mishra.
Recalling her childhood, Divya says that she was born and brought up in a joint family with lots of love and care. She got inspiration and support from her grandfather to move forward in the field of music. Her grandfather is a poet and has always encouraged her to learn music.
Talking about her journey, Divya says that with the support and blessings of her father, she didn’t face many challenges. The most important part of her journey is Riyaz (practice), as she has to do it daily, irrespective of any occasion or function in the family. She says that her father made many sacrifices and faced a lot of difficulties to make Divya’s journey smooth and easy.
Divya shares that she was always interested in singing and used to sing songs by Alisha Chinai in her childhood. Her father inspired her to move forward in this field and worked hard to provide her with the guidance of a guru. Initially, she didn’t like classical music, but slowly and gradually, her interest developed in classical singing, and she decided to make a career in classical music.
Accepting her mistakes, Divya says that she made the mistake of not putting much effort into her identity in the field of music. She says that after carrying the burden of her responsibilities, she was not able to give proper time to her practice and learned that it is important to make your own identity in any field. Her husband and her son supported her a lot in her journey.
Sharing her achievements, Divya says that getting training and guidance from Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra is one of her biggest accomplishments. She got the blessings, love, and appreciation of three gurus in her life. She also won the gold medal in the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan.
Divya’s role models are her gurus, Kishori Amonkar, Pt. Jasraj, and Bhimsen Joshi, as she learned a lot from their music.
To beat stress, Divya does brisk walking and listens to music. She also likes going on drives to attain mental peace.
Divya’s life mantra is to be happy and spread happiness.
