As an instructor, Dinesh Shrimali has dedicated himself to training individuals across various sectors, aiming to strengthen disaster management in Udaipur.  He has also worked on research projects of international universities like Princeton, Harvard and MIT.

Dinesh Shrimali works as an Instructor at the ‘Nagrik Suraksha Vibhag’ in Udaipur. He explains that his primary responsibility is to train people to handle various types of emergencies, whether natural or man-made disasters.

His role involves preparing individuals to effectively manage disaster situations, teaching them how to deal with the challenges that arise during such crises. Shrimali’s job is to ensure that people are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to face emergencies with confidence and composure.

Talking about Disaster Management, Dinesh Shrimali emphasizes that disasters do not announce their arrival in advance and can occur at any time, in any form. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen people's mental resilience in preparation to face such situations when they occur.

For instance, when responding to a disaster like a building collapse, it is crucial to be technically proficient. In such situations, rescuers must be prepared with the technical skills required for the job. This includes how to safely perform ground rescues, use fireman lifts to carry people, provide CPR, dress wounds, and manage other injuries. Shrimali explains that his role involves training individuals in all these areas, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle emergencies. Once trained, they can then go into the field and apply their skills to real-life situations.

Dinesh Shrimali also shares that, since the implementation of the Disaster Management Act in 2005, the process of disaster management has gradually evolved. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of India has played a significant role in this gradual progress. He mentions that in the recent G-20 Summit, a proposal was put forward to consider Disaster Management as a startup.

Disaster Management Expert Dinesh Shrimali conducts training sessions in various departments, including the police, the electricity department, the OTC, various schools, and more. In schools, he has trained students as master trainers. According to Shrimali, it is essential for every individual across all departments to be aware and well-trained in disaster management to effectively handle emergencies.

In terms of his achievements, Dinesh Shrimali says he has worked on research projects by Princeton University in the field of Psychology, and his name was also included in their book. Under this project, he worked on understanding the psychology of people in the Banswara region of Rajasthan and on finding ways to improve their standard of living.

Additionally, his work for MIT focused on enhancing people's social and economic foundations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shrimali made significant contributions, for which he was awarded a certificate by the then collector, Anandi.

Talking about his inspiration behind joining the Disaster Management field, Dinesh Shrimali shares that he had always been actively involved in the NGO field and had carried out numerous social initiatives. In 2017, when the Disaster Management Department was established in Udaipur, he had the opportunity to meet Deputy Controller Amit Sharma, who is currently working in Jaipur. During their meeting, Amit Sharma introduced him to the field of disaster management. Following that, the department was set up, and Dinesh joined it, attributing the entire credit to Amit Sharma, whom he considers his mentor.

Reflecting on his early years, Dinesh Shrimali shares that he hails from Losing near Haldighati, Udaipur. Initially, he used to work in the NGO field, focusing on research projects of international universities such as Princeton, Harvard, and MIT. As a project associate, his role involved ensuring that the social work conducted reached as many people as possible, aiming to uplift their standard of living and contribute to their overall well-being.

When it comes to role models, Dinesh Shrimali considers Swami Vivekananda as his inspiration. He is particularly moved by the vision Swami Vivekananda had for the youth, and he believes that if every young person adopts his teachings, India could elevate its standing on the global stage. Shrimali firmly feels that the youth should look up to Swami Vivekananda as an ideal, as it could bring about transformative change in society.

Dinesh Shrimali shares a quote he personally coined and campaigns for: “One nation, one talk” — by which he means that, instead of focusing on diverse opinions, we should all unite to discuss and work towards the progress of our nation. He emphasizes that the country has given us everything, and the most important question is what we can give back to the nation and how we contribute to its development.

To new aspirants to Disaster Management, Dinesh Shrimali advises them that no matter what field you are working in, disaster management is a domain that is not linked to your formal education but rather to your experience. For example, if an accident occurs in front of you and you have some knowledge about disaster management and have been trained for it, you will certainly be able to think and act effectively to help others. He emphasizes that, regardless of the field one is in, it is important to prepare oneself for disaster management. He believes that youngsters should be trained and prepared for such situations.

He further advises the youth to develop a sense of dedication to the country. "Our country is not our personal property; but it is our wealth. It is our duty to nurture, protect, and enhance it," he says.

Lastly, Dinesh Shrimali reflects on the dream he had when he entered this field — to ensure that every municipal ward in Udaipur has a team dedicated to disaster management. His goal is to train them so they can work as volunteers, contributing back to society. He envisions that if a trained team of 10 members is established in each ward, Udaipur would not be dependent on government agencies during disasters. Instead, people will be able to step up and work on the ground to help effectively during such times.
