Dinesh is a Light Designer who started as a theater artist and simultaneously learned every stage-related work. He has done thousands of shows and has also traveled internationally to provide his services.

Dinesh Poddar is the owner of Q Lighting, Kolkata. Till now, he has done more than four thousand shows as a light designer and over thousand shows as a production designer. He started his company in 1999.

Dinesh shares that his childhood was full of struggles and reminiscing about it was something he would not like to do. He further shares that in 1989, one of his friends asked him to join Padatik, which was a Hindi theater group. There he learned acting and started working in plays. Slowly, from acting, he started doing set and costume designing, and music designing and in 1995 he started working in the field of lighting. In 1999, he started his own company.

When asked about his struggles, Dinesh says that he did not have to struggle much in this field as there were no players in this work at that time. The only struggle he faced was during the time of COVID.

Talking about mistakes, Dinesh says that they were not mistakes but only sacrifices. He feels that working for a long time without any earnings in Padatik taught him a lot about work and created a foundation for his present work.

Dinesh says that his achievement in life is that people know him as a light designer now and have accepted his work.

When asked about his mentors, Dinesh says that Shyamanand Jala who was the director of Padatik taught him a lot and gave him the freedom to learn in different fields.

Advising the youth, Dinesh says that they should love their profession as it will help them progress in life.

In his free time, Dinesh likes watching different shows and movies and observing the use of lighting in them.
