Dinesh Choubisa was born and brought up in Udaipur. He has been in the construction field as an engineering consultant for the last 28 years building roads, bridges, canals, dams, multi-storey buildings, industrial structures and many more types of projects
Dinesh’s father was a professor in the Vidhya Bhawan in Udaipur, and they had an environment of studies in their household. At that time, everyone wanted to become either an engineer or a doctor. Although, in his heart, Dinesh wanted to join the army but he too was drawn into the race to become an engineer. In their school, apart from the usual curriculum, there was a big focus on practical technological training from 6th class onwards. This created an engineering type attitude in the students. They had to work in a workshop during their school time and practically learn carpentry, work of a blacksmith like welding , fabricating etc.
After school, Dinesh did a three years diploma in Civil Engineering. Then he worked in the Irrigation Department of the Rajasthan Government for an year and then, in order to acquire an engineering degree, he joined the Government Engineering College in Aurangabad. He had a special interest in Structural Engineering and studied Applied Mechanics.
Adjusting in Aurangabad was a challenge for him as it was a big city and he was from a small place. Also, he was from a Hindi medium background and switching to English medium was a challenge. But with his grit, determination and hard work, he overcame all the difficulties and came out with flying colors. His professors started encouraging him. His presentation about development of a fast track for formula one racing and his design for an international stadium drew praise from all his professors and peers.
Dinesh considers all his professors as his role models. He was inspired very much by several of his teachers and remembers many of them with respect even today. Besides, he thinks that one shall always be a student in life and consider everyone else as his guru and keep learning from whoever one comes across in life.
For the youngsters interested to join the Civil Engineering field, his advice is that they should be prepared for the hardest grind in this field. He says that you must be prepared for any situation 24 hours as your services may be required any time.
Talking about education and experience he feels that practical education is more important than bookish knowledge. In his opinion experience is what you gain all the time working.
Dinesh is keenly interested in reading books of all types but mainly related to his subject, motivational books and spiritual books. He is also interested in weapons and is a national level shooter. He is a member of the Indian Rifle Association. He also has interest in various sports like shooting, archery horse riding etc.
When asked about the Corona pandemic, he thinks that whoever lives in the traditional Indian style of living that is surviving with minimum, can face the pandemic and come out safely.
