Dheeraj has been working with the Union Bank of India since 2015. Currently, he is serving in the capacity of Deputy Manager at the same.
Dheeraj hails from Udaipur. He did engineering. He says that when he graduated, it was a time of recession and owing to that he couldn’t find a job opportunity in the engineering field. So he appeared in the IBPS examination and got success in it and became a banker.
His first posting was in a rural area and he would have to change buses to reach the bank branch he worked at. He says that working in the rural area gave him first-hand experience of how banking works in the rural parts of the country and how it’s different from urban areas. There was only one bank branch in the rural area for a population of thirty thousand and people from far-flung areas would travel to that bank branch for their banking related needs.
Dheeraj thinks that banking is a good profession as working in the banking sector teaches you to deal with different people and improves your communication skills. Besides, he says that you need to be passionate to work in this sector.
During the Covid pandemic, he got to spend time with his family and be with them. He also watched Ramayana during this time and tried to imbibe lessons learned from it in his life. But on the professional front, he says that owing to the pandemic everything was shut and banks also didn’t experience the footfall of people as usual.
Apart from his work, he likes to ride a bike, drive a car and roam around with his friends.
Dheeraj shares that education and experience both are important. He says that to work in the banking sector you need to be a graduate and once you are in the sector, you learn and climb up the hierarchy with your experience.
Dheeraj thinks that he is not a born leader but with time he is improving his leadership style. His style is such that he tries to set an example for others and inspire them through his work. Moreover, he says that leadership is not something that is to be shown at the workplace only, you can take charge of the little things at your home too and inspire others at home.
He considers industrialist Ratan Tata as his inspiration and role model. He says that the way Mr Tata does his business is the ultimate example for him.
If he could go back in time, then he would want to witness Dhoni play in the World Cup of 2011. Besides, he would also want to meet the late APJ Abdul Kalam.
