Dhanashri Deshpande is a singer and music teacher.
Dhanshri was born in Nanded, Maharashtra. She did her schooling at Gujrati High School. She is an M.A. and M. Phil in music. Now she is settled in Mumbai.
Recalling her childhood, Dhanashri says she used to participate in many cultural activities at school and in her city, Nanded. She got her initial guidance from her father, the famous singer and harmonium player, Pandit Gangadhar Dev who took her to many places for various stage shows. She feels happy that she was brought up in a musically affluent family.
Talking about her career, Dhanashri shares that she took her music hobby seriously after marriage. Her husband, Shashank Deshpande, is a sound recordist and a flute player. Motivated by her husband and mother-in-law, Dhanashri started participating in various big shows.
Describing her struggles, Dhanashri says she went to Mumbai to give her career a new boost. That was the hardest time for her as she had to live without her son for four years. However, her struggle at various stages led to the success that came to her in leaps and bounds. Now her family has shifted to Mumbai from Amravati.
When asked about her role models, Dhanshri says they are Lata Mangeshkar, Pandit Jasraj, Kaushik Chakravorty, and Ashwini Bhide Deshpande.
Next to music, teaching is her hobby. In her free time, Dhanshri takes online singing classes. She also likes cooking.
Sharing her experience of the pandemic, Dhanshri says during COVID, she learned a lot of things. Being a singer, she also learned Urdu. She watched tutorials on youtube to learn music.
To aspirants of the music field, Dhanashri advises them to practice for long hours and focus on their work. Proper guidance with knowledge is the prerequisite of learning which leads to success.
Dhanashri believes that a good teacher has much importance in the field of music. To be successful in this career, one must have to respect and follow their teacher.
