A versatile artist, Devroop Sharma has built a career spanning dance, acting, and writing, including work for movies and web series. Over the years, he has honed his skills in theatre and lyricism, earning numerous awards for his performances. Beyond accolades, his greatest achievements are personal: gaining patience, wisdom, self-control, and the respect of his peers.

Devroop Sharma is a multi-talented artist, known not only as a dance teacher and actor but also for his ventures into writing, lyricism, and poetry.

His career reflects a deep passion for the arts, fueled by a diverse range of interests and a drive to explore various creative avenues. Throughout his journey, he has dabbled in multiple professions while maintaining a strong connection to the stage, screen, and the written word.

Sharma’s love for dance began at a very young age, deeply influenced by his grandmother, a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer. He recalls that she held him as a baby and said he was destined to be a dancer. This early blessing from his grandmother, who specialized in classical dance, was the spark that ignited his dance journey.

Growing up, he embraced a variety of dance styles, which expanded his skill set and helped him carve his own path as a dance teacher. A key moment in his life occurred on World Dance Day when he attended a dance workshop and encountered salsa for the first time. He was fascinated by watching someone teach salsa, which solidified his decision to become a dance instructor. This moment defined his future in the world of dance education.

While dance has played a central role in Sharma’s life, his exposure to acting started early due to his father's work as a film distributor. Devroop Sharma spent much of his childhood on film sets, observing actors and absorbing the art of performance. His early interactions with the film industry gave him a natural inclination towards acting. He often found himself involved in activities related to filmmaking and storytelling, which piqued his interest in theatre.

Participating in theatre productions during his youth helped him overcome stage fright and gain the confidence he needed to express himself on stage. This experience played a key role in shaping his future, not just as a dancer, but also as an actor and a performer.

Devroop Sharma’s passion for the arts didn’t stop at performing; he also developed a deep interest in writing. After completing his degree in advertising, he discovered the Academy of Theatre Arts at Mumbai University. His enrollment in the academy became a turning point in his career. There, he met the legendary Padma Shri Awardee Waman Kendre, an Indian theater director who went on to become a significant influence in his life.

Sharma describes his time at the academy as transformative, not only for his development as a writer but also for his personal growth. He and his friends at the academy would watch a movie every night in their hostel and engage in deep discussions about the film. These discussions helped him widen his perspective and sharpen his critical thinking, instilling in him a deeper understanding of the arts. His teachers and mentors, such as Purushottam Berde, encouraged him to explore theatre further, which led to his involvement in numerous stage performances.

Looking back on his achievements, Devroop Sharma speaks humbly about his journey. While he has received many awards and trophies throughout his career, he considers these as secondary to the personal growth he has experienced. For him, the true rewards lie in the patience, knowledge, and wisdom he has gained along the way. He also highlights his ability to maintain self-control, adapt to various challenges with flexibility, and earn the respect of his peers and audience as some of his greatest accomplishments. These qualities have helped shape him into the well-rounded artist and individual he is today.

Devroop Sharma is quick to acknowledge the many role models who have influenced his life. He counts his parents as his first and most significant sources of inspiration, crediting them with teaching him the values that have guided him throughout his career. He also draws inspiration from several teachers, particularly Firoz, who he says imparted lessons beyond textbooks, and his mentors from the Academy of Arts such as Waman Kendre, Vijay Kenkre, and Shafaq Sir.

These educators helped shape his artistic journey, encouraging him to explore his potential and embrace his talents fully. Additionally, Sharma is deeply inspired by Govinda, the legendary Bollywood actor, whom he considers a long-standing source of motivation and admiration.

Devroop’s life philosophy is simple yet profound. He believes in three guiding principles: "Never lose your cool, be articulate in your communication, and be sure of your decisions." These rules have helped him stay grounded, navigate challenges, and maintain a clear sense of purpose in both his personal and professional life. This mantra, combined with his natural talent and dedication, has allowed him to maintain a balance between his diverse interests and his roles as a teacher, actor, and writer.

As his career continues to evolve, Devroop Sharma remains deeply committed to his students and the artistic community. His journey, from dancing in his grandmother’s arms to teaching others and performing on stage, is a testament to his passion, resilience, and drive. Whether through dance, theatre, or writing, Sharma continues to inspire others to follow their passions, embrace their unique talents, and pursue personal growth alongside professional success.
