Devendra Mehta originally hails from Badi Sadri, Chittorgarh, but he is settled in Udaipur for the past twenty-five years. Starting with a pharmaceutical business, he later delved into the hotel and restaurant industry of Udaipur. He started with Saffron Restaurant in the city and then he opened many more restaurants in Mount Abu, Nathdwara, and Chittorgarh.
After completing his schooling in Chittorgarh, he went to Mumbai to pursue a Diploma in Electronics. He came back to Udaipur and started a job with Hindustan Latex Limited and worked there for four years. He worked for different pharmaceutical companies and then in 2002, he started a pharmacy store by the name Jai Pharma which is still up and running. Besides, he is also into the readymade garments business and also does property work in Badi Sadri alongside his restaurant and hotel business in Udaipur.
He says that he has seen a lot of ups and downs in his life but with the help of friends and all the well-wishers he is doing well now. During the Covid pandemic also he had to suffer losses in his restaurant business. But now he’s picking up again taking into consideration the market dynamics.
To the people who want to do their business in the restaurant and hotel industry, Devendra advises that you should do your business only when you can handle it yourselves and not delegate someone else to run it as the industry is pretty much customer dependent.
He considers his family, who was always there by his side, as his role model. Besides, he also acknowledges the blessings of his gurus in being able to run his businesses successfully.
His leadership style is that he doesn’t treat anyone as small or big. He likes to take everyone along and work with them hand in hand and also guides and scolds his staff whenever necessary.
He is also a member of various social clubs like Lions Club, etc. in Udaipur. He is also a member of Badi Sadri Mitra Mandal and also a member of Jain Shwetambar Sangh in Udaipur.
In his free time, he likes to spend time with his family and friends and help them. He also adjusts as per the situation.
To the youth, his advice is, before making their decisions they ought to consult the elders in their family.
