Dev Soni, a seasoned Yoga Expert and Founder of Prana Yoga Shala, has dedicated eight years to his practice of yoga.
Originally from Nagore, Dev Soni now resides in Jodhpur. He reflects fondly on his playful childhood. When they were living in Nagore, as the eldest son in a goldsmith family , Dev Soni began assisting in the family business at just 13, balancing his studies. Twenty years ago, he moved to Jodhpur, initially working as a jewellery designer before his growing interest in yoga emerged as he sought relief from his own health issues.
His journey in yoga began with a foundational course, where he learned Surya Namaskar and quickly recognized the healing potential of yoga. Dev pursued advanced studies, and eventually started conducting sessions for various groups, including railway employees, the Income Tax department, and even the Indian army. A pivotal moment in his journey came when he met his guru, Shri Karunakar in Karnataka. Inspired by his guru’s wisdom, Soni went on to establish his own yoga school, Prana Yoga Shala, with a mission to help others heal.
Dev Soni believes deeply in the therapeutic power of yoga, particularly ‘pranayama’, which he believes enhances blood circulation. He also emphasizes the importance of yoga in treating discomforts like knee pain, cervical pain etc.
Reflecting on his journey, Dev Soni admits that he once fell into the trap of merely imitating others rather than cultivating his own path, a lesson he quickly corrected.
Soni’s role models include his spiritual mentor, Shri Shri Ravi Shankar, and his yoga guru, Shri Karunakar, both of whom have profoundly shaped his practice and philosophy.
His life mantra is simple: enjoy life and remain happy. Dev Soni advises young people to prioritize their health as the foundation for a successful career, stressing the importance of well-being alongside professional aspirations.
For yoga enthusiasts, Dev Soni recommends enrolling in a 200, 300, or 500-hour yoga course, available in Rishikesh, Mysore, and at his own institute. He also mentions universities offering diploma and master programs in yoga. Soni encourages those interested to learn therapeutic yoga with him and advises yoga aspirants to first master all asanas and conduct their own research.
