Be your own mentor and learn from your mistakes.
Dev Pandey is a musician and songwriter based in Mumbai. He has been in the music field for the past ten years.
Talking about his early days, Dev shares that his grandfather comes from Uttar Pradesh, and they had a family business of importing and exporting fruits. Thereafter, Dev’s father started his own business and desired Dev to lend a helping hand in the business, but Dev had different dreams.
Dev completed his graduation and listened to his inner voice, which spoke of an artist. Recollecting his childhood, Dev shares that when he was a little kid, he remembers his maternal uncle singing a song for him, and since that day, his interest in music grew. Thereafter, Dev started participating in music events held at the school level. As a quiet and imaginative kid, he eventually started writing lyrics.
Dev’s musical journey started in 2012 with one of his friends who used to play the guitar. They together started a band and did a couple of shows. Thereafter, something in his life happened, and, due to that, Dev had to drift away from his music career for a period of four years and do a 9–5 job. Making a comeback in the music industry became a daunting task for him. But Dev was lucky enough to find a group of composers through which he could find his way back into music.
Speaking about his mistakes, Dev shares that he made a big mistake as a teenager by going against his parents. On that note, he advises the youth to listen to their parents, as they are our wellwishers.
When asked about his role models, Dev says he draws inspiration from legendary singers like Mohammed Rafi and Sonu Nigam.
His life mantra is to never stop and learn from your mistakes.
Dev advises aspiring songwriters to bring their own creative thoughts and implement those unique ideas in your songs.
