Deepali Sharma is a painter and feels that education is very necessary to polish one’s skills and get new opportunities in life.

Deepali Sharma was born on the auspicious day of Deepawali and gets her name from that. She is a painter and suffers from hearing impairment. Her story is being told by her father.

After Deepali was born, it took around two years for her parents to recognize her problem. They took her to all the good hospitals in cities like Delhi and Mumbai. She was provided with a cochlear implant and was sent to a special school for two years so that she could be trained to study in a normal school, later in her life.

After this, she started her schooling at Tagore Vidhya Niketan, Jaipur. Her father says that it was very tough for Deepali to grasp things in a normal school. She would dedicate the same number of hours to study at home as well to come at par with other kids.

Her father shares that till her 12th, even he was not aware of her love for painting. She used to paint occasionally but when he saw her dedication towards painting, he decided to let her pursue the field. She took admission in ICG college in the field of arts. Deepali also did her post-graduation in the same field. Deepali was second topper in both her graduation and post-graduation and now plans on going for a doctorate.

Her father shares that her painting skills are so good that once a person was not ready to believe that one of her portraits of Mother Teresa was actually painted by her and kept on insisting that it was a photograph. Her painting exhibitions in Jawahar Kala Kendra have received great success.

Her father shares that once, Radha Vallabh Gautam of the Progressive Artists Group, Mumbai praised Deepali extensively and asked her father to never stop Deepali from pursuing her passion in this field.

During COVID, Deepali didn’t face much problem as her time was invested in painting and polishing her skills. The only setback was that they could not go out on trips as a family.

Talking about struggles, her father says that Deepali and their family have been a collective force and faced every trouble together. Studying in a normal school and grasping everything without any special treatment in the school, going to a college and experiencing a language change from Hindi to English and then putting extra efforts due to her condition were all struggles they faced together.

Deepali looks up to Satish Gujral, who despite his issues, made a name for himself in the art field.

Talking about her achievements, her father says that a biography of around thirty minutes about Deepali was produced by Doordarshan. She has also found a place in many national and international magazines as well.

In her free time, Deepali undergoes speech therapy and tries to groom herself to be a part of this competitive world. She also likes playing badminton.
