Deepak Yadav is currently serving as a chef at Belgian Waffles in Udaipur. He has been working here for the last 4–5 years.
Talking about his journey, Deepak says that when he got free from school, one of his friends introduced him to a person who was looking for staff for his soon-to-be launched Belgian Waffles outlet in Udaipur. After that, he was sent to Mumbai, where he underwent tough training for 15 days. There, he got different experiences and exposure to handling customers. Also, as the store was to be opened in a mall, he was given an extra 3 days of training in malls in Mumbai with a very huge crowd so as to train him to tackle the crowd. And then he cleared the final training exam and got the job at the outlet.
Deepak’s starting salary was Rs. 9000, in that he had to bear his own expenses, such as house rent and the cost of the vehicle, and apart from that, he had to send some money to his family. He dreams of building his own house, but the market is very costly, he says. But still, he is determined to achieve his dream and is working really hard for it.
During COVID time, the store was closed, so Deepak went back to his home. There, his father suggested he take a job at a construction site as a supervisor, so he did. His salary was Rs. 9000, out of which 2-3k was spent on petrol, and his working hours were very long. He asked for an increment from his employer after six months of work, but he denied it. So he then decided to quit the job. The employer didn’t clear his dues and even abused him and his mother when she went to request him. He was in a very critical condition at that time. Also, his dad met with an accident during that time, so all the responsibilities were upon him alone. It was a very challenging time for his family. They didn’t even have adequate food to eat.
After the COVID scenario got a bit better, Deepak went out to search for a job. He searched a lot; even though there was no vacancy at Belgian Waffles as the working hours were very short, not many staff members were required, so he worked at Zomato. His experience was not that good, as he was sent 15–20 km away for food delivery, and he also did not have his own vehicle, so it was not very beneficial for him. He then went back and gave an interview at Belgian Waffles, where the in-charge asked him to join in the month when working hours will get expanded. For the time being, he started working at Flipkart, and with every parcel delivery, he used to ask people for a job, but nothing happened. Later on, he joined Belgian Waffles.
For the people who are coming to seek a job at Belgian Waffles, Deepak’s advice for them is that first of all, you should be disciplined, then you should respect your seniors and even staff members, because if you give respect, then only you will get respect. Also, you should be eager to learn new things.
For being a leader or manager at Belgian waffles or anywhere, Deepak suggests that one should be frank enough with their staff; seriousness or strictness will not give you good results. You should handle all the issues at your level. You should also maintain a bond and an understanding with the staff and be cooperative enough.
When asked about his role models, Deepak says that he really gets inspired by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. In one of the interviews, he mentioned that a person should be stuck to his dream or goal; he should be determined enough and should not get away from his goal at any cost, and this will definitely bring you closer to success.
