Deepak Kumar is a Bharatanatyam dancer and the owner of Shri Mookambika Cultural Academy. His wife is also a Bharatanatyam dancer. For 28 years, he and his wife have been running this academy.
Deepak belongs to Puttur near Mangalore in Karnataka. Since childhood, he had been interested in dance. When he was in his third grade, he joined Bharatanatyam classes and has been in this field since then.
Talking about the journey in his life, Deepak says that his mother's passion was dance. She was not able to make her career in this field because of some financial problems but she wanted her son to become a dancer. Inspired by the films, his mother enrolled Deepak in dance classes where Guru Ambale Rajeshwari taught him very lovingly and patiently. He has also learned dance from Guru Narmada, Guru Mohan Kumar, Dr. Maya Rao from Bangalore and many more. He has also learned the Kuchipudi dance.
Deepak says that he has also received support in every field from his parents, friends and schoolmates.
Regarding role models in his life, Deepak says that he considers his gurus and his parents as his role models without whose support he could not have been what he is today.
To the aspirants to dance, Deepak advises becoming a slave of their gurus if they want to learn anything. He also says that dance needs practice daily and besides, an artist should always be humble.
Deepak feels that stress is a part of life. He advises everyone to enjoy stress. According to him, dance and music are medicines for stress. He also feels happy that now many boys are coming to this field.
