As an actor, writer, and director, Deepak is a creative person who is best known for playing the role of Gandhiji and earning a name for himself among the audience.

Deepak Madhukant Atani is an actor, director, and writer who has been in the industry for the last thirty years. He hails from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Recalling his childhood, Deepak shares that he was born in a lower middle-class family where his father was a stenographer. He was good at cricket but didn’t take much interest in his studies. Deepak took Science in his higher secondary school and got a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. At the same time, Deepak took a great interest in acting and writing and participated in local theatres and workshops.

Talking about his professional journey, Deepak shares that he landed his first job at IPCL, Vadodara but soon found it monotonous. Thereafter, he came across a drama college in the city and pursued his Bachelor’s in Dramatics from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Life took a turn, and Deepak landed at Doordarshan as a Production Assistant, where he worked for thirteen years. He then shifted to Gujarat and got an offer from ETV Gujarati, where he worked for two years. Deepak is currently working as a freelancer and is a B-grade empanelled artist at Akashwani.

Speaking of his achievements, Deepak says he has directed and written four Gujarati films, which have earned awards and recognition. His character as Gandhiji was accepted very well by the audience, for which his name was listed in the India Book of Records and the Limca Book of Records for playing the most roles as Gandhiji.

Deepak has done over 270 shows with his team in a span of one year. He has appeared in several films like ‘The Making of a Nation’ and ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh.’ Deepak also received a special award for his play ‘Sardar Patel.’ He appeared as a virtual Mahatma Gandhi during the "Walk with Gandhi" event at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum in Delhi.

When asked about his mistakes, Deepak shares that trusting people too easily and bearing financial loss in return has been one of them. He feels that his polite and modest behaviour is often taken advantage of by people. Deepak also took some risky decisions, like quitting his job at Doordarshan, which was his call; however, he also faced struggles owing to such decisions.

Talking about his role models, Deepak says he draws inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi and his values and teachings. He also feels inspired by the holy scripture, the Bhagavad Gita.
