Inspired by his childhood interest in Rajasthan’s heritage, Chinmay is enjoying working as a tour guide. He has worked with numerous large hotel companies and enjoys introducing tourists to the ancient and rich heritage of Rajasthan and the country.

Driven by his deep passion towards India’s rich heritage, Chinmay Dixit works as a Tourist Guide in Udaipur.

Chinmay had been fascinated by tourism since his teenage years. After completing his graduation, he enrolled himself in a Hotel Management course. Completing the course in 1989, he underwent training, and worked in various renowned hotels in Udaipur and Mount Abu. He gained about 12 years of experience in the tourism industry, but thereafter, he shifted to pharmaceutical sales and marketing on the insistence of his father, who was a doctor and wanted him to be in the same field. He worked in the field of pharmaceuticals for five years and was also awarded a gold medal for his work.

However, Chinmay was not happy in the pharmaceutical field and returned to the tourism industry in 2002. He started working as a tourist guide and has been associated with the Taj Lake Palace from the very start of his career and later with other hotels and companies in Udaipur.

Reminiscing about his childhood memories, Chinmay shares that he lived in the old city part of Udaipur and spent his early years there in Bhatiyani Chohatta and Jagdish Chawk. He recalls watching the shooting of ‘Octopussy’, a James Bond Hollywood movie in Jagdish Chawk, which introduced him to a whole new world. He noticed that after the release of the movie, there was a sudden increase in tourist arrivals in Udaipur, and it became difficult to accommodate so many tourists. Realizing the potential of tourism, he decided to make his career in the field.

When asked about his struggles, Chinmay says he considers himself fortunate to have never had much difficulties in his career. However, he faced a tough time when he was hospitalized for more than a year and a half in 2011 due to a stomach issue that required his intestines to be removed by medical professionals. He soon regained his health.

Speaking of his accomplishments, Chinmay mentions that he had won numerous medals, honors, and certifications in Kabaddi and Kho-Kho in his teenage years. During his time in the pharmaceutical sector, he also received a gold medal. His performance as a tour guide has earned him 132 positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

Chinmay takes inspiration from the great warrior of Mewar, Maharana Pratap and another ruler Maharana Kumbha, who built some marvelous forts as well as wrote Sangeet Mimansa, and was known for his kindness towards his subjects and for his love for art and music. He also gets inspired by the life of Meera Bai, known for her unparalleled devotion towards Krishna. He also mentions Maharana Raj Singh, who commissioned the creation of Rajsamand Jheel. He is also inspired by Acharya Rajneesh, also known as Osho and the famous spiritual teacher, Sadguru.

He likes to listen to the song by Mukesh, ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’.

Chinmay advises anyone wishing to work in the tourism sector to thoroughly study the field before pursuing it as a career, rather than being drawn in by its allure alone. He recommends that they should plan an itinerary and gain a thorough understanding of all the tourist attractions. It is also expected of you to be well aware of the current global events. As a tour guide you never cease to learn. He suggests that you liven up your narration as you accompany the tourists.

Addressing the youth, Chinmay emphasizes that they should be aware of their responsibilities towards the country and possess a sense of patriotism as citizens. In addition, he encourages students to form their own opinions and not be duped by anyone else's. He urges them to practice ethics, spirituality, and be patient.
