Dr Chandrakant Sharma has been serving in the capacity of the Principal at Aravali Teachers’ Training College, Udaipur for the past nineteen years.
Chandrakant was born in Gokul - a town in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh and did his primary school education there itself. Later his parents had to move to Bhilwara, Rajasthan as they were government teachers. And he did his remaining schooling in Rajasthan.
Chandrakant says that he hails from a middle-class family. He always saw his parents work hard in their teaching jobs and looking at them he was also determined to become a teacher. After completing his school education, he did B.Sc. from Agra University. He also did M.Sc. in Chemistry. And then he did his B.Ed. from the same university as he wanted to make a career in teaching. Thereafter he also did M.Ed. and PhD. Meanwhile, he also started working at a teachers’ training college in Kanore, and then in 2006, he got the opportunity to be the Principal of Aravali Teachers’ Training College, Udaipur and since then he’s been serving there.
Whatever he is today, Chandrakant owes it all to his parents. He says that one’s upbringing and the atmosphere in the family plays a crucial role in shaping one’s personality and career.
Chandrakant joined a teachers’ training college to produce quality teachers. Today more than five thousand students whom he taught are working in different parts of the country and it makes him proud of his profession whenever he meets them. He has also assisted in opening more than thirty-five B.Ed. colleges in different cities.
Chandrakant says that it brought about a different perspective on his life after his wedding. He says that his wife, who is also a teacher, has positively impacted his life.
Chandrakant believes that leaders are not born rather one becomes a leader by their work.
He says that he learnt leadership from the then Director of the teacher’s training college he worked at. He thinks that leadership can not be learnt unless one works on the ground.
Chandrakant thinks that education is really important in life as without education one can’t do anything in life. He advises people to be educated to live a dignified life.
Chandrakant says that it’s paramount to have a goal in life to be successful. Besides, remaining focused on your goal during tough times and working hard on it will help you achieve success.
Chandrakant advises parents to let their children pursue what they want to and not impose their aspirations on them.
Chandrakant thinks that a teacher plays an instrumental role in shaping a country. He says that teaching is a great profession and proposes people take to it. He also says that during the Covid pandemic when everything got shut teachers were the only ones with whom children could interact besides their families.
During his free time, Chandrakant likes to listen to retro songs to relieve the stress of his work. Besides, he also likes to play Cricket. He also likes to spend time with his family and kids and go on outings with them on Sundays.
