Chand Chawat is the Founder of the Chawat Sports Academy based in Udaipur, which is known to be Rajasthan's largest private sports academy.
Coming from a family with a sports background, Chand is carrying forward the legacy of his parents and is upskilling young sports aspirants. At his academy, he coaches students in Badminton, Cricket, Football, Table Tennis, Chess, Karate, Skating, Swimming, and other sports, helping them build a good career in the field.
Chand feels pride in sharing that the students of his academy have had many achievements at the district, state, zonal, and national levels in Badminton, Karate, Table Tennis and Cricket. The biggest achievement of the academy was when his mother became the first player from Rajasthan to win a gold medal in all three categories of Badminton at the national level.
Having begun playing Badminton at the age of eight years, Chand had been professionally carrying forward his interest and winning multiple achievements in the same. He says that he was actively into sports till the age of twenty-two and has won multiple titles at the district and state levels. He also participated in a national-level tournament.
After the age of twenty-two, he commenced his corporate journey, but never left playing sports. Since life is all about challenges, Chand faced difficulties in his job and one fine day he thought of starting something of his own. He left his corporate journey in 2016, moved to Udaipur, and with the support of his family, continued to pursue his passion and began practicing at the Love Kush Stadium. While practicing at the stadium, some junior students approached him for guiding and mentoring them and that was when Chand’s journey as a sports coach began.
Chand was born in Gandhinagar but soon moved to Udaipur due to his parents’ government job. He completed his schooling at St. Paul's Senior Secondary School and graduated in Pune.
Cherishing his childhood memories, Chand says that he had been into sports since an early age and it helped him learn to beat challenges, improve his personality, and enhance his decision-making. Reminiscing about some of his challenging matches, he says that he has learned a lot from his matches. Giving credit to his mother - a retired International Coach at the Sports Authority of India, he says that he initially trained under her and has learned a lot from her. He feels proud to represent India internationally and is also going to represent the country in the BWF tournament.
When asked about his role models, Chand says that his parents, who are retired International Sports Coaches, are his role models. His parents, at the age of 75, are still actively engaged in sports and coach people to improve their game.
Conveying a few inspirational words to the public, Chand says that there is no shortcut to success. It’s just that one should have a strong belief in oneself. Success is all about determination, hard work, and dedication.
Talking about his achievements, Chand says that every achievement has its own charm and adds a unique value to the winner’s hat. He says that achievements are just the stepping stones of a player’s journey and they should be proud of every achievement they get. Since Chand has been into sports for a long time, he has achieved various awards and titles. He says that he got his very first national title at the age of forty-five. At the age of thirty-six, he became the state champion in the Men’s Doubles Badminton Tournament. The proudest moment for him was to represent India.
Life brings you a lot of ups and downs, and Chand also faced challenges during the initial days of his journey. He says that in the initial days of his sports journey, people used to value education and corporate jobs more than any other career. Therefore, pursuing a career in sports was a bit difficult for him.
Talking about the greatest struggle of his life, Chand says that in the year 2020, he met with an accident while playing and had to undergo foot surgery and thought that it would be the end of his sports career. However, with his fighting spirit and the support of his family, he overcame the challenge and has won a lot of tournaments after recovering. After recovering from his injury, he won a silver medal in the National Tournament, a Bronze Medal in the Mix Doubles Tournament, and a lot more.
Conveying his message to talented individuals, he says that if one practices with discipline, there is no end to their success. The skills you learn with hard work and zeal, stay till the end of your journey and will definitely show you the positive path, says Chand. Adding to the message, Chand says that irrespective of the challenges you face be it mental or physical, just follow your heart, believe in yourself, and do it with dedication. He motivates the youth to help society, stand strong against anything wrong that happens around them, and also take the nation on a positive note.
Advising the upcoming players, Chand says that first identify the sport of your interest as this will be your very first step towards your goal. To the parents, he says that enrolling their kids in any sport will help them in personality development, self-belief, confidence, and a lot more.
To anyone who wants to have an insight about any sport, or to get trained in sports, Chand, at Chawat Sports Academy, would love to welcome them, guide them, and help them pursue a career in sports.
