Bushra started working with NGOs in her college days, where she was involved in the education, development, and empowerment of girls. Currently, she is working as an associate in the client account management team of a for-profit organization.

Bushra Hasan is currently working with Haqdarshak Empowerment Solutions Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi. She has been associated with such organizations since her college days. She has worked with organizations such as ‘Teach for India’ and ‘Meri Rozi, Mera Adhikar.'

Inspired by them, she joined a 2-year Gandhi Fellowship program, where she worked with the Bhil Tribe of Udaipur, Rajasthan. It was a life-changing experience for her, and after that, she worked with ‘Piramal Organization’, ‘Akshaya Patra Foundation', and several other organizations. She says that she then understood the difference between for-profit and non-profit organizations, and being inspired by social work, she aspires to become a social entrepreneur.

Bushra belongs to Haldwani, Uttarakhand. She did her schooling at St. Theresa Senior Secondary School, Uttarakhand. She has done Sociology (Honours) and Masters in Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. She says that she has been rebellious since her childhood because she doesn’t like to be differentiated against men and to get suppressed about her feelings to do something. Later, she joined the ‘Pinjra Tod Movement’ while she was in college to work against the patriarchal norms at the university.

Bushra encountered a significant challenge as her family never backed her in her endeavors, and their disapproval persists. Working in a tribal area, she faced prejudice because people perceived all Muslims as terrorists. Despite the initial difficulties, Bushra lived among them, worked with them, and gradually earned a special place, altering their perceptions about the Muslim community.

Bushra says that COVID had made her completely paranoid because, in the first wave, she was immensely affected professionally by not getting placements, and it affected her personally in the second wave. She was worried about her family members, as she was staying away from them. She thinks that because of COVID, she underwent some behavioral changes. She was full of negativity and fear at that time.

Bushra feels that she has had some leadership qualities since birth, but some she has developed with her work, experience, and time. She thinks leadership is all about teamwork, where everyone grows together, and as a leader, she wants to uplift everyone.

Bushra believes that education is very important to enter any field or to take up any profession. She says that education gives you an idea of society and helps you build a new perspective on it. She feels that through education, you will be able to get good experience in life.

Bushra advises the newcomers that if you want to sustain yourself in the social development sector, then you must be patient and work hard in your field.
