From working in the textile industry to joining the merchant navy, briefly exploring entrepreneurship, and ultimately transitioning to the insurance sector, Bhupendra's career path has been marked by transitions. Throughout the highs and lows of his life, he persevered through every challenge he encountered.

Bhupendra Singh Rathore holds the position of Senior Development Manager at Max Life Insurance.

Born in Banswara district, Bhupendra completed his schooling in his hometown. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Science in Anand, Gujarat. After graduation, he returned to Banswara and worked for two years at Automotive Fabric, a textile company, focusing on fabric shade production. However, his desire for further education led him back to Anand.

Subsequently, he seized an opportunity to join the Merchant Navy after passing the entrance exam and medical tests. Starting his career with American Eagle Tankers, he embarked on a journey beyond his state, experiencing his first flight to a foreign destination—Portugal—where he was assigned to a 250-meter-long ship. Despite initial nervousness, with the blessings of his parents and support from colleagues, he adapted to the situation and commenced his career journey. His initial posting in the merchant navy lasted seven months, followed by a three-month break.

In 2015, Bhupendra ventured into a business endeavor with his friends, but soon realizing it wasn't his calling, he returned to the merchant navy. He got engaged in April 2018 and tied the knot in February 2019. He resided in Mumbai for a year and a half before relocating to Udaipur and joining Max Life Insurance.

His stint in the merchant navy showed him the importance of insurance, leading him to research various companies and their practices. Impressed by Max Life Insurance's consistent track record in claim settlements, he made the decision to join the company. He appreciates the thorough training provided to employees by Max and has received two promotions based on performance during his three-and-a-half-year tenure in the company.

Bhupendra emphasizes the significance of insurance in financial management during unforeseen circumstances. Drawing from his experience with LIC and other companies, he praises Max Life Insurance's work culture and employee support.

Recalling his childhood, he cherishes childhood memories as the youngest of three siblings, recalling his extroverted nature and lasting friendships. Despite his aspirations for IIT JEE, he pursued higher education at Sardar Patel University in Anand, where he honed his independence skills and excelled in athletics. He secured the first position in the 200-meter race every year and has also played badminton at the university level.

He shares that he kept on learning in every shifting phase, whether transferring from a Hindi-medium school to English in his 11th grade, living in a hostel in his college, or joining the Merchant Navy.

When asked about his role models, Bhupendra says that he has learned from various individuals at different phases of his life. He is inspired by his father, who has dedicated his life to his family and always kept smiling in every situation. He admires his school teacher, who even postponed his marriage due to his students' exams. In his college days, he felt motivated by his badminton coach, who, despite the early demise of his father, managed everything in his family. Bhupendra learned from him to focus more on the solution of the problem. He is also inspired by his branch head, who taught him about corporate culture.

Inspired by APJ Abdul Kalam's words, "Better late than never," he advocates taking proactive steps towards goals rather than regretting later.

Bhupendra shares the challenges he faced in expressing himself to family, friends, and colleagues. He mentions that transitioning between fields met criticism from his family for leaving a lucrative job. Thereafter, delays in document processing and visa acquisition that were necessary for his posting after completing his merchant course were demoralizing. Later, when he ventured into his friend's business, it posed further hurdles, leading him back to the merchant navy. He also had to take a loan from his friends for his certificate renewal. However, living in Mumbai post-marriage tested his survival skills. His relocation to Udaipur brought its own trials. With unwavering support from family and his spouse, he tackled each obstacle resolutely.

His advice to everyone is to rely on themselves and never lose hope in any situation. Be positive and adopt a problem-solving mindset, says Bhupendra.
