Bhawani Shankar is a farmer in his village. He has increased his earnings many folds through his brilliant ideas in farming.

Bhawani Shankar had very humble beginnings. He belonged to a very poor family in Sultanpur, near Rajasthan. Bhawani used to have just one pair of clothes when he was a kid. He had just one uniform that he used to wear to his school. Coming from such a background, Bhawani had to stop his studies after the eighth standard and work with his father, who used to work in the fields.

After working with his father and gaining experience, Bhawani thought about innovating and growing his business. To do so, he knew he had to bring something new to the table and so, he started cultivating thai lemons in his field along with guava and oranges. He also started cultivating different vegetables according to their demand in their particular seasons. Along with farming, he also started keeping cattle in his field and started earning through the selling of dairy products. Bhawani’s ideas worked well and he started earning well.

Bhawani believes experience is very important in life. He thinks that to succeed in life there’s no alternative to hard work. Education is nothing if you don’t have experience and you don’t work hard enough.

Bhawani says farming is different from sitting at a shop. You just cannot sit at home and do it. For getting desired results out of it, you have to at least visit your farm once a day and check if anything needs to be readjusted. It’s important to observe well to discover any problems in your field. Also, to be able to gain a footing in the market, it is important to bring something unique of your own.

In his childhood, Bhawani couldn’t enjoy life like the other kids as the financial condition of his family was very bad. He started selling vegetables in the market from a very young age to help his family. He and his father worked hard to repay all the debts for their land.

Today, Bhawani owns a very big piece of land and earns around ten lakh rupees from his cultivation every year. He also earns extra from selling dairy products. He says it is very tough for the small farmers to get back to their feet if their field fails to yield as much as they desired. There are a lot of problems that farmers have to face but they are never respected the way they should be. People should respect the farmers as they work day and night in the fields to provide their produce.
