Consistency and constant learning are the keys to success.
Bhavika Chaudhary is the owner and promoter of Fanusta Global Pvt. Ltd., a startup promoting the craft of Indian traditional artisans and craftsmen. The company asks its artisans to produce products with a fusion of traditional art and modern utility. The company has also expanded into interior design, in which they use long-lost traditional crafts too. Bhavika handles marketing for the company.
Bhavika started doing this in 2016. She, along with a friend of hers, visited a talented painter in a small town. They were impressed by his talent but realized his limitations in selling his products as he did not have access to marketing platforms. They traveled all over India and came into contact with many such artisans and craftsmen. The artisans were giving up on doing the art as it was not generating money for them. This inspired them to start their e-venture. Currently, they have 78 artisans associated with them. In 2019, they also opened their first experience store in Jaipur. Now, they are also coming up with their second store in Pune.
The biggest struggle Bhavika faced initially was to win the trust of the artisans. Another problem was promoting new designs and innovations. Besides, competing with Chinese products is always a challenge. She says Indian handcrafted products are naturally costlier than cheap Chinese products. She has to work hard to convince people to prefer handcrafted products in order to promote our traditional art and craft, says Bhavika.
The COVID pandemic was a really tough time for her and her company. She says it was difficult to walk through the pandemic. In her company, they created a Corona safety kit and marketed it to survive.
Bhavika thinks both education and experience are essential in life. She believes we learn a lot through experience.
Talking about leadership, Bhavika says she has learned leadership qualities gradually. She says you have to acquire it if you have to work with a team.
Remembering her childhood, Bhavika says that she was born in a very small town near Jaipur. As her father was in a transferable job, they used to move around all over Rajasthan, living in many cities. Later, she settled in Jaipur after completing her graduation in English honors from Ramjas College in Delhi University.
Bhavika says she has always been inspired by people. Her biggest encouragement are the artisans who inspire her to come to work every day, keeping in mind that she is here to do something for them.
In her free time, Bhavika reads a lot and also watches movies.
Bhavika’s success mantra is consistency and constant learning. She believes you must work all the time with the same zeal and enthusiasm.
Bhavika requests that people buy handmade products as they are sustainable and good for the environment.
