Bhavani has drawn inexpressible learning lessons by traversing from one continent to another, trying to understand humans and cultures to such an extent that even she cannot comprehend it fully.

Bhavani Rao R was born in the port town of Visakhapatnam and is a native of Andhra Pradesh.

She spent her early childhood in Chennai and grew up in a hostel. After completing her schooling and college in India, Bhavani migrated to Africa and then the USA to chart the future course of her life. She completed her Masters in Theoretical Physics in Africa and then pursued another degree in the US. Over the course of her journey, Bhavani realized that she wanted to serve the nation of her birth and decided to come back to India. She found her true calling upon meeting Amma- Mata Amritanandamayi, the famous Indian spiritual leader, who changed her perspective towards life.

Bhavani is quite passionate about women's issues, which she closely got to deal with while working with Amma. She has performed some notable research work on sexually harassed women, trafficking, and women's livelihoods and empowerment. As a director at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bhavani got an opportunity to merge her skills in multimedia education, women related issues, and content development. Pursuing her passion for serving society, Bhavani went on to become the UNESCO Chair, Center for Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality at her reputed institute, Amrita.

Bhavani says that one of the biggest mistakes that she made was to let someone else’s experience be her learning lesson. She adds that during her professional journey, she should have verified certain facts which she didn’t. Bhavani asserts that your personal experience coupled with self-introspection helps you guide your judgment better.

Her proudest achievement was to create a cohort of women who made transformative changes to their community in rural areas. Bhavani is thankful to her team members and mentors because of which such a change could be achieved. She equally feels proud of her students who have started their own NGOs and helped transform some lives. Bhavani also feels accomplished owing to the recognition AAMCHI Labs has received on a global scale.

As someone who has lived abroad for quite a long time, Bhavani feels that there is no greater education than traveling and getting to know people's cultures. She is grateful to her parents, who gave her the opportunity to see the world. Bhavani draws inspiration from Amma as well, with whom she traveled for 20 years, traversing different regions across the globe. There are many other people in her life by whom she feels inspired by, including her warden at school, her physics teacher, her siblings and cousins.

Bhavani advises the youth to be sincere and have a feeling of gratitude in their daily lives. She urges everyone to work towards collective strength, as one of the teachings that she received from Amma.

In her free time, Bhavani enjoys the writings of the prophet and reading spiritual books.
