Bharat Verma is a choreographer, an event manager, and the founder of the company called Heartbeators. His company has operations in Udaipur and Mumbai.
Bharat first established his business in Udaipur more than a decade ago. The core of his business expansion and strategy included organising royal weddings in the city along with dance classes. In 2014, he got a big break by working on the Bollywood movie Lucknow Central, which was released in 2017. During the project, he got to set up another dance school in the Powai region of Mumbai.
Recalling his childhood, Bharat says that dance was his passion, and he was inspired by Michael Jackson and Prabhu Deva to pursue a career in the same. He says that there was a time when reality dance shows were a big hit in the nation, and he was also inspired by them. And, because of these reality shows, there was also increased interest from the general public.
Back in 2004, when Bharat started his journey in this profession, he was teaching dance in a school while doing small projects like weddings and Rajasthani dance videos. In 2011, he got a chance to work with and train an American dance group. For this project, Bharat went to New York, took it as a learning opportunity, and explored the body percussion technique.
He then introduced the body percussion technique in India since it was a very less-known technique and still is. He has taught this style to many prominent personalities in the country. Between 2016 and 2018, Bharat got the opportunity to work with this company in New York.
Carrying on his path as a professional dancer, Bharat participated in 2015's India’s Got Talent, and in 2017 he worked in a movie called Lucknow Central. In 2019, he got the opportunity to work with A.R. Rehman and Adnan Sami on a show called Voice.
Talking about his motivation for working and pursuing his dreams, Bharat says that he is a person who believes in luck. He elaborates on this by listing his definition of luck, which is "labor under correct knowledge." He says that hard work with the correct knowledge of a field always pays off. And one should know the inside out of any field that they wish to pursue. Bharat follows the mantra of practicing perfection in his work, be it small or large.
Bharat adds that in every field, there are a lot of distractions, and you need to avoid these distractions to achieve something meaningful. He says that in every journey, there are many ups and downs, and in his profession, each project offers a different challenge. To successfully navigate these challenges, his team has set formulas for the different domains they are working in.
Bharat says that to become successful in the dance industry, patience is crucial, as is learning to deal with failure. If one can take it as part of the process, they can successfully navigate through this industry.
Bharat says that if you want to succeed in any field of your life, then you’ll have to make certain sacrifices. For him, these sacrifices were managing his work and personal lives. Bharat got married in 2012, and after that, he moved several times to accomplish his career aspirations, which included moving to New York, setting up operations in Mumbai, and various other work-related travels that he did over time. He says that he had to sacrifice the time he could have used to spend with the family.
His venture, Heartbeators, offers many dance and fitness regimes for potential clients to choose from. They also offer classes for different age groups, from young kids to teenagers and adults. Bharat says that the star package of his company is a unique 40-day fitness challenge named Fitness With Fun.
Apart from this, his company also offers dance classes to people who are willing to perform at the weddings of their loved ones. Their special wedding packages offer creative dance routines. They also carry out body percussion training throughout India and take online classes of the same for corporate teams.
Elaborating more on his body percussion activities, Bharat says that he represented India in the UN while performing Bollywood dances to the popular song "Jai Ho."
Bharat says that body percussion is an art when you form a rhythm in your mind and present it with body movement. He says that the uniqueness of this art lies in a rhythm that appears like a dance. It can be performed in two ways: one where you create music with the taps of your hands and feet, and the other where you can do body drumming with some complementary music.
When asked about his role models, Bharat says he draws inspiration from Pete Seeger, a renowned folk artist who wrote many songs during the Second World War and spread the message of peace through his art.
