Bela Mathur is a dedicated Music Teacher at Jayshree Periwal High School, Jaipur, with over 12 years of rich teaching experience at the institution.

She has received formal training and is a ‘Sangeet Visharad’. She has also learned how to play the Piano from the globally famous Trinity College of London, reflecting her strong foundation in both Indian and Western music.

Along with her school teaching, she conducts music classes at her home and actively performs in personal shows at prestigious venues such as Birla Auditorium and Maharana Pratap Auditorium. She is also associated with several organizations, through which she regularly participates in and presents various musical programs, contributing consistently to the cultural and artistic landscape of the city.

Music Performer Bela Mathur holds a Master’s Degree in Music and, in addition to this, has also worked as an Anchor with All India Radio for five years, gaining valuable experience in broadcasting and communication. She has actively participated in numerous musical programs held across Jaipur, further strengthening her presence in the city’s cultural scene.

At the school level, she has composed several original songs and has also contributed her talent to social causes by working with NGOs. One such organization is the NGO, Muskaan, which focuses on road safety awareness. For this initiative, she wrote and composed a special song and went on to teach it to students in 35 schools across Jaipur, using music as a powerful medium to spread awareness for a cause. Talking about what made her enter the field of music, Composer Bela shares that she grew up in a home filled with music. Her entire family had always been deeply passionate about music. Watching her brother play instruments like the Flute and the Banjo, and seeing her sister play the Dholak, had a profound influence on her.

Being raised in such a musically enriched environment shaped her journey from a very young age. Music became an inseparable part of her childhood, and she developed a deep love for it early on. From those formative years, she was clear about her path—she wanted to grow up to become a Music Teacher and dedicate her life to teaching and spreading the joy of music to others.

Reflecting on her early years, Bela Mathur shares that she was born in Jodhpur, where she also completed her schooling. Her career with music began during her school days, as she started learning music at a very young age. By the time she was in Grade 5 or 6, she was already actively participating in school cultural programs.

As she progressed to higher classes, her involvement in music deepened further. She regularly took part in various competitions and soon became one of her music teacher’s favorite students, known for her dedication and talent. She went on to complete her college education at Jai Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur, where she also pursued her MA (Previous).

After her marriage, she shifted to Jaipur, where she began her professional career as a music teacher, continuing her lifelong passion for music and passing it on to the next generation.

Talking about her role models, Music Teacher Bela Mathur shares that her family has always been her first and strongest source of inspiration, as she learned so much from them from her childhood itself. After her marriage, her mother-in-law, who was also a music teacher, became her role model. She constantly motivated Bela to move forward in life and follow her passion for music with dedication.

Her mother-in-law would often say that life offers many responsibilities, but if one truly loves music, they should work hard and go as far as possible in this field. Initially, Bela was only a singer and did not play any instruments. Gradually, her mother-in-law taught her how to play the Harmonium and encouraged her to expand her skills further. She also inspired her to take Piano training and learn more instruments.

Today, Singer Bela Mathur is proficient in singing and playing multiple instruments, including the Guitar, the Piano, and the Harmonium. She also acknowledges her childhood music guru, Ratanlal Ji Mathur, who has remained a constant source of inspiration and guidance throughout her musical career.

Sharing the thought that inspires her the most, Bela Mathur says that one line she truly lives by is: “Don’t let your dream remain a dream.” She believes that dreams should not be limited to imagination alone; one must make sincere and continuous efforts to turn them into reality.

She is also deeply inspired by the famous lines:

“लहरों से डर कर नौका पार नहीं होती, कोशिश करने वालों की हार नहीं होती, नन्हीं चींटी जब दाना लेकर चलती है चढ़ती दीवारों पर, सौ बार फिसलती है…..”

These verses remind her that fear of challenges can never lead to success, and those who keep trying with determination never truly fail. Just like the tiny ant that slips again and again yet continues to climb with unwavering faith and courage, perseverance ultimately leads to achievement.

According to her, if one works consistently and puts in honest effort toward any goal, success is inevitable. With patience, belief, and dedication, every dream can be transformed into reality.

Sharing about her hardships, Bela Mathur recalls that there was a phase in her life when she went through deep uncertainty and emotional stress. This period came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools and institutes were shut down, leaving many questions about the future. With educational institutions closed, financial challenges also emerged, and it often felt unclear when normalcy would return.

However, with God’s grace and inner strength, she and her family were able to overcome that difficult phase. During the lockdown, she channelled her emotions into creativity and wrote a song on Corona. She submitted this composition to an inter-school competition, where it proudly secured second position, turning a challenging time into a moment of achievement.

According to her, life is full of ups and downs, but one should never lose courage. Every situation can be faced and overcome with strong determination, hard work, and faith. She firmly believes that with perseverance and belief in oneself, even defeats can be transformed into victories.

Sharing her advice for aspiring musicians, Jayshree Periwal High School Music Teacher Bela Mathur says that the music field offers vast opportunities for those who truly wish to grow in it. If one wants to become a music teacher, it is essential to first receive strong foundational training, because only a well-trained individual can effectively teach music to others. In the field of music, one can explore several paths such as becoming a composer, songwriter, or pursuing formal degrees in music.

However, she emphasizes that regular ‘riyaaz’ (practice) is the backbone of music. Music is not just about singing well; it requires consistent and disciplined practice. The more one practices, the more refined and strong the voice becomes. Having basic theoretical knowledge of music is equally important, and for this, learning under a good mentor or guru is crucial. According to her, proper training greatly increases the chances of success in the music profession.

For the youth, her message goes beyond music. She believes that honesty, integrity, and sincerity are essential values for contributing to the nation’s progress. Even the smallest positive effort by an individual plays a role in taking the country forward.
