Babita Sharma is a Member of the Juvenile Justice Board, Jodhpur.
Babita was born and raised in Gandhigram, Gujarat. She originally hailed from Ajmer, but her father was posted in Gandhigram with the Indian Railways.
Babita says that whilst she was still in her second year of B.Com, she was married. After her wedding, she moved to Ajmer, Rajasthan to live with her in-laws. And owing to this, she could not continue her studies. Later when her children had grown up, she resumed her studies. She moved to Jaipur along with her family and completed her BA there. Along with her BA, she also did some courses to learn to operate the Computer and work on different software. Later she also did her ITI diploma in AutoCAD.
After completing her ITI diploma, she started a computer center to teach people how to operate a computer. She also provides RS-CIT courses at the center. Along with this, she also worked in the social sector. She says she worked for the welfare of women and children. And whilst working for children, she got to know about the post of a member at Juvenile Justice Board, Jodhpur. She applied for it and got the job.
Babita says that as a member of the Juvenile Justice Board, she is entrusted to hear the matters of crimes committed by minors and pass judgments accordingly. She says all the laws and acts are the same for both minors and adults. But for the minors, the laws and acts have been made a bit flexible and liberal, so that the future of minors can be saved from getting ruined.
Babita thinks that due to the lack of education in rural areas, children there don’t know how to make the right use of technology and mobile phones. And owing to that they get misguided and commit crimes. And this is resulting in an increase in the number of crimes under the POCSO Act.
Babita advises parents not to pressurize their children to opt for a particular career option. Instead, they should let their children pursue a career based on their interests. Besides, she says that education is important. Therefore parents should ensure that their children first complete their education and then they pursue what they want. Furthermore, she advises that both girls and boys should be treated equally.
To the youth, Babita advises first to have a goal in life, and then with focused efforts, they should strive to achieve their goals.
In her spare time, Babita likes to listen to songs and spend time with her children.
