Babita Negi is an accomplished Judo athlete who has won numerous championships for the country. Babita has six World Cup medals and a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games. She has won seventeen national titles and has been named Punjab University's best athlete for the past two years. Babita is also the first international player from Chandigarh. In addition to being a founding member of Nuon Lab, she serves as the Director of Marketing for Biochem Life Sciences.
Babita is not only a businesswoman and athlete, but she is also a social activist and a member of the Delhi Football Association's advisory council. Babita helps underprivileged athletes and acid victims in her capacity as a social worker.
Babita recounts her early years, stating that though she is a Garhwali, she was raised in Chandigarh. She completed her bachelor's degree in Physical Education at Punjab University after attending St. Xavier’s School for her elementary education. Babita discloses that she was teased since she was a little girl because of her size and weight, but she overcame it to succeed in life.
Recalling her early days in Judo, Babita shares with us that her father wanted her name to be published in the newspaper when he spotted the name of one of their acquaintances published. At this point, Babita started her athletic career in an attempt to realize her father's dream.
Babita proudly tells us of her notable achievements, which include winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games and six medals from the World Championships. She has been crowned Punjab University's finest athlete for consecutive two years and has seventeen national trophies under her belt. Additionally, Babita is the first Chandigarh-born international athlete.
Giving us some insight into her first Asian Games qualifying experience, Babita reveals that she was terrified of her opponent at the time because she was an Asian medallist. Babita's senior, Yashpal, advised her never to underestimate her capabilities, which enabled Babita to defeat her opponent in ten minutes and secure her place in the Asian Games.
Babita is deeply appreciative of her friends, family, and mentors for helping her follow her father's ambition. When asked about role models, she mentions her friends and parents as role models since they give her constant support and motivation to practice judo to win medals. Babita also looks forward to her husband as a role model who has helped her manage a business that is successful.
Babita makes it clear in her message to the youth that stress management is crucial. This can be done by taking action and having a positive and happy mindset. If you want to achieve your goal, you must ask for the help of friends, family, and other people.
